This review is from: Polishing the Petoskey Stone: Selected Poems (Paperback)
Luci Shaw's timeless poems are a part of my life. I have the hardcover copy of "Polishing the Petoskey Stone," which was published in 1990 (Harold Shaw Publishers), as well as the lovely more recent paperback version listed here (2003, Regent College Publishing).
If you are just discovering Shaw's work now, or wish to add to your collection, this book will give you a good sense of her earlier work. For example, the section, "Listen to the Green" includes poems from 1955-1970. I remember being so inspired by the thought of listening to colors! As another example, the section which concludes the book, "Postcard from the Shore," includes poems from 1982-1985. At the end of her Introduction, Shaw writes: "I feel like a Petoskey stone, once grey and dull, but now achieving a gloss that shows it for what it is. And I know who is doing the polishing." Luci Shaw is an artist who is sharing her journey of faith over many books, in both poetry and prose, with honesty and grace. She is one of the great poets of our time. |
