From School Library Journal
In just over 100 pages, Schuckett motivates and explicitly details an exciting "how-to" of political lobbying at all levels–from the school site and local board all the way to the national level. She identifies the "targets" of lobbying efforts and suggests ways to build relationships with them, and gives an excellent, detailed, amusing personal example that resulted in major state legislation supporting California school libraries. Other chapters help readers refine and focus their message, offering advice on writing sound bites and statements, and suggest varied avenues for delivering it to those in power. One section is a handbook for developing a successful Legislation Day in your district or state, and colorfully chronicles a national "Legi Day." The book concludes with empowering success stories, followed by six useful appendixes, including 10 "always" tips to remember. School librarians need political clout, and Schuckett shows us how to get it.–Mary R. Hofmann, Rivera Middle School, Merced, CA
