This is a great example of relevant political science. Far too much is irrelevant to anyone beyond the strange fraternity of those label themselves as political scientists, and as a result, brand themselves as out of touch. Does being a woman matter when one is engaged in politics? Kahn finds that yes, being a woman does matter. Why? Mainly because being a woman ensures that any woman will be judged through the lens of gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes compel individual women to display characteristics and traits that most associate with women. If any woman fails to conform to these stereotypes, they will be evaluated negatively by most Americans. This will result in their becoming unpalatable to the electorate. This is a well done book, backed up with a great deal of statistical evidence, so you can place some faith in what these authors are trying to accomplish. I would suggest this book to anyone who is interested in the topic. Get it and enjoy!!!!
