This review is from: Political Holiness (Theology and Liberation Series) (Paperback)
"Political Holiness", (subtitled, "A Spirituality of Liberation")by Bishop Pedro Casaldáliga of Brazil and José-María Vigil gives readers an excellent understanding of the spirituality of Latin American liberation theology. After discussing what they mean by spirit and spirituality, in part one the authors describe the characteristics of a basic, human ethical-political spirituality that exists within Latin Americans, which include "a passion for reality," ethical indignation, an option for the poor, solidarity, radical faithfulness, etc. In part two they single out Christian spirituality - not as a different spirituality - but as an additional level of spirituality deriving from explicitly Christian categories. . .The reading of this book not only helps one to understand liberation theology but effectively calls one to throw in his/her lot with the poor of the earth.
