5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough and objective, November 12, 1999

This review is from: Political Islam: Essays from Middle East Report (Merip Reader) (Paperback)
If you want a clear and unbiased account of the reasons for the muslims' political behavior, this is the book to read. If you want to recover from having read culturally biased publications such as the ones by authors like Michael Field and Judith Miller whose primary objective seems to be making arab muslims look like idiotic monkeys, please don't miss the chance to read this very informative book. While not portraying the Middle East like the garden of Eden (it certainly isn't), the authors of the various essays help to shed light on a still unknown and largely misunderstood part of the world. Knowing the arabs' past, their successes and many failures, and understanding Islam's omnicomprehensive grasp on the faithful's lives, will help the reader gather a clearer view of the reasons for the muslims' behavior today.
