Book Description

October 2001
While many anthologies cover ancient and modern classics, "Political Philosophy: Classical and Contemporary Readings" is the only anthology to cover both modern classics and contemporary works. The issues covered are what seem the burning philosophical issues of our time: the justification of the State; theories of justice; liberty; State neutrality versus moral perfectionism; equality and equal opportunity; the nature and scope of rights; national sovereignty, cosmopolitanism, and World government; and international politics including foreign aid, military intervention and immigration. Each part begins with an introduction to the problems debated in that part. Each selection is introduced with a biographical sketch of the author and an abstract of the reading, so that students can obtain an orientation to what they are about to read.

This is perhaps one of the most important course that any college student may take. The book is mainly a reader that covers a wide range of thinkers from the political and ideological spectrum and will definitely be a great introduction of any new students. This book has been in circulation for several years and thats a testament to the awesome reading selection chosen by author as well as indicative of a book that students can digest and have really amazing conversations, discussions, and debates over. Overall, great reading and very good priced book, get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars read Sterling Harwood on Is Inheritance Immoral?, January 1, 2004

Please read my contribution to this excellent textbook: "Is Inheritance Immoral?" I especially admire the essays on terrorism and on equality, respectively. Explore the many other books by Louis P. Pojman. He is very prolific and always worth reading. His selections are fair in representing a wide variety of views. The readings are especially clear and are thoughtful enough to instruct and inform students and faculty alike.
