Book Description

July 2004
Follow in the footsteps of political leaders such as Anne Hutchinson, James Michael Curley, Martin Luther King, Jr., the Kennedy’s and Tip O’Neill... Boston is both the largest city in New England and the state capital of Massachusetts. As this book shows, the city looms large in American history and politics. This guide will show you unexpected yet important sites to understanding Boston — and take you behind the scenes of its famous landmarks such as Faneuil Hall and the State House. The wealth of anecdotes and illustrations bring the people and places of politics to life. The guide covers every Boston neighborhood while emphasizing the historic center. Includes a downtown walking tour that complements the famous Freedom Trail. It's like a political history of Boston by street address.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the colorful political history of Massachusetts, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Political Places of Boston: From the Backrooms to the Golden Dome (Paperback)
This well-researched book serves as an excellent introduction to the rough and tumble world of Massachusetts local politics, from the Colonial period to more recent events, containing many amusing anecdotes, photographs and descriptions of the colorful political history of Massachusetts.

This book makes for a useful guide to walking along the Freedom Trail, or other places in Boston. (There is a detailed section with suggested walking tour, complete with detailed addresses for the location of various political events and locations of significance.)

Would be of interest to people with a general interest in history, as well as political junkies from within the state and beyond. Would especially be of interest to those living in Boston, or here for a visit.
