Book Description

Political Reference Almanac May 30, 2001
Quite possibly the most comprehensive political reference book ever assembled, The Political Reference Almanac provides facts and information about politics and governments, both in the U.S. and around the world. This massive undertaking methodically lays out the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. federal government; U.S. state and local governments; political parties; Nations of the world; International Organizations; political documents; economic statistics and the U.S. federal and state budgets; and a political calendar of events. It includes over 800 photographs of U.S. and world leaders and biographic profiles of congressmen, senators, cabinet officials, justices, governors, mayors, and others. Also included are over 240 maps. Not just for the politically involved, it is a must for every reference bookshelf.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

The principal objective of the Political Reference Almanac has been to compile as many of the facts, figures, and contacts of the American political world as possible into one comprehensive reference work. In so doing, much effort has been made to provide information about all aspects of government, on all levels, and from various perspectives. In this respect, while the heart of the book lies in its examination of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the United States federal government, information has been presented about state and local governments close to home and world governments beyond our shores in an effort to fully inform the reader.

Much effort has been undertaken to improve and expand the Almanac in the 2001-2002 edition. While the United States presidential election was an impetus to include more and detailed information relevant to that particular event, the reader will also notice the addition of Congressional district maps, augmented historical information, and significant enhancements to the national government profiles. It should be noted that the Political History section has been eliminated and the information therein distributed among the other sections. It is believed that the data will prove to be more accessible in this arrangement. Also, due to the increase in size of international information provided, it has been split into two sections, Nations of the World and International Organizations. These will replace the former World Governments section.

It is hoped that in future editions, the information presented may be expanded and presented in yet more useful ways. To this end, the author and publishers of the almanac would welcome and encourage suggestions from readers to assist us in our continuing efforts to create the most comprehensive and useful reference work available on the subject.
