Format: Paperback
That Leach's book is in its third edition speaks to the importance of his work. While anthropologists in Africa were picturing lineal (or clan based) societies as stable to understand how they worked, Leach encountered lineal societies that were cross cut by social class and linguistic divisions. He had to develop a paradigm that assumed change was constant and his problem was to explain why and how changes occured.
He would be the first to admit that his explanation was not complete, but he focused attention on change as elementary to society. In so doing he reoriented the thinking of the next generation of anthropologists.

I got my book and, just as stated, the was no outer damage. More writing on the inside than I expected but its in pencil if I need to erase it. It took about 10 days to receive, I was expecting a shorter shipping time...Overall, great service!
