1.0 out of 5 stars This Belongs in the Doghouse
In his new book, Savage describes people as animals of his political zoo. After more than three hundred pages of this book, the only animal that will come to mind is that this work is a real dog.

Savage continues name-calling throughout the pages. This tactic detracts from his assertions rather than make them more compelling. He calls Cindy Sheehan, the...

The fact that he isn't interviewed or asked to comment on all the various political

shows on TV and the radio is an outrage. We need many more who can speak out

like him and tell it like it is without fear of not being politically correct.

A friend told me he can't listen because Michael yells too much. Well I say someone

needs to be yelling about things right now. What do you think Paul Revere did!

Keep shouting it from the mountain tops Michael, we're listening!

5.0 out of 5 stars Savage Rules, May 15, 2006
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
Notice how the "Savage Weiner" psychos never attack Savage's positions on current issues, they just attack his name change and positions he supposedly took on alternative medicine 25 years ago? It kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it? They have to attack him on something other than his positions, since he is right on target about them and they know it. They do the same thing to Ann Coulter - "She lied about her age on her driver's license." Yea, so? What does that have to do with her ability to call liberals out on their utter stupidity? It's a small group of radical propagandists who chase Savage and Coulter, creating websites devoted entirely to discrediting them and they go after Savage's advertisers too - I can tell by these posts it's the same group of people with the same tired smears that have been posted online for years. One of them even calls himself "Savage Weiner." He's so obsessed with despising Michael Savage, he named himself after him. I was crashing their message boards 4 years ago - just wait, they will come back and post something about Savage "swimming naked with Allen Ginsburg." I don't care if he married Allen Ginsburg, it has nothing to do with his accuracy as a pundit. Facts are facts, which is why they never attack his arguments, just his past life as a hippie in the 60's. He was amongst them in his early years, which is why he has such an iron grip on how to best expose them and that is why they work day and night to try to discredit HIM, not his arguments.

Notice how aside from only a couple reviewers who didn't like the style or tone of the book, the only critical review that even addressed Savage's arguments in a rational manner was a conservative defending Rush Limbaugh? The left-wing dolts in the Savage Weiner crowd again just exposed themselves as complete idiots and saved me the trouble.

Though a die-hard Savage fan, I wasn't sure if I would like the Political Zoo based on the general premise until I read the chapter on Bono (Gaelic shamus). When he asked Bono, "What's next almighty Bono? A worldwide stand against sadness? An end to B.O.? A cure for death?" I was laughing out loud. And that's only page 22. Then he tops the Bono section off at the end by quoting "one of the more intelligent members of the rock-and-roll species," Alice Cooper...

"If you're listening to rock stars in order to get your information on who to vote for, you are a bigger moron than they are."

I'm only on the "C's," just now embarking on the Jimmy Carter (Marxus peanutfarmera) section, but I can tell you the Bono chapter alone is worth the purchase price.

How about one of you Savage Weiners come forward and try to refute something in the Political Zoo with evidence?

For a political reader of Savage and his cohorts (I hesitate to say cohorts, because he would say he has no equals--but they're part of the scene, let's say)...this is a creative breath of fresh air and for liberal, conservative, or independent alike--if you cannot find something funny here, then you may have either lost or never had a sense of humor....but that, of course, is for the reader to find out!

I'd highly recommend this book--and that you listen to his radio show while he is still reading from it. He alludes to many topics not mentioned here, which are well worth the time to hear about.

If anything here offends you, that is probably a good thing. He does not spare Republicans, and Dick Cheney's ox is well gored...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome as usual even though a bit unusual for a Savage book, May 3, 2006
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
This time Savage really outdid himself with his latest book of satire: The Political Zoo.

As a conservative and a Savage lover, I could not stop laughing at most, if not all, of the cartoons a write-ups in this book.

As for the 2 or 3 negative reviews that insist on calling Savage by his real, legal name, it is obvious they are just "Red Diaper Doper Babies" who have been paid to post their reviews, clearly have a personal hatred for Savage, or both.

Of course, no liberal is going to laugh when reading this conservative work. The truth often hurts and hurting is never funny for the "hurtee".

Love the book and love the man!!!

BTW, as for the reviewer that claimed they thought that Savage, O'Reilly, and Limbaugh were all in agreement, you obviously have never really heard Savage or even those other talk shows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, April 23, 2006
By
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
The Political Zoo is absolute genius. I have never found a political satire that is so funny, so complete, and so relevent. Savage does a fantastic job of reminding the reader of incidents from the past and the present while connecting them to his naturalistic caractures of people in the media. While blatant in the text, the work as a whole is very subtle (the politicians are listed in alphabetical order like in a real scientific catalog) as are many of the "zoo-keeper's" descriptions of the animals. An instant classic and a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars our only hope, May 27, 2006
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
Dr Savage, with his brilliant independent mind, brings a controversial and informing novel to one's reading list. In his book, he describes the filth in washington, and he details the failures of this filth. Savage attacks both republicans and democrats alike which brings a non-biased opinion to his novel. I highly recommend this incredable piece of art to anyone with a mind capable of logic and reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metaphoric and Dry Wit from the Oracle, April 24, 2006

This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
Stepping away from a 1000-member review which offers absolutely no value whatsoever, allow me, Trekkie-ozmosis to offer my perspective about the Political Zoo. I borrowed (stole?) some of my proletarian logic from a recent book written about Alexander the Great.

Dr. Michael Savage does his best to follow the Greek tragic dramatists, specifically Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. His message is to warn against arrogance and willfulness, which plays into the fate of people who wish to denigrate our borders, language and culture in America.

The Political Zoo was written to challenge our contemporary leaders. If the only way to reach them is to poke fun at them with satire, so be it. Sometimes, cartoons in America are created to incite action! Savage's rhetoric, outlined in the Political Zoo, considers the irrational lack of character among our contemporary leaders.

Here is where Savage emerges majestically as a pragmatist, `lead by a countervailing temperament that follows the philosophers of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, which instructs the human mind to focus on reason as an alternative to violence.' In my humble opinion, this mode of logic thrusts Savage upon a "world-class" stage that goes far beyond borders, language and culture.

Dr. Michael Savage is one of the greatest analytical minds of our day. Insensitive, moody, melodramatic, but refreshingly colorful and 'caaaaring,' (pun intended), he is always insightful and passionate albeit playful about life in our cryptic world.

Sorry but I could not resist... I admire Savage, but would be embarrassed to meet him. Similar to the reaction of the famous cynic Diogenes, he would most likely give me a `direct, uncomfortable gaze, and tell me to stand aside because I am standing in his sunlight.'

[Reply on radio by Dr. Savage, May 15, 2006: "I AM MICHAEL SAVAGE, YOU CAN STAND IN MY SUNLIGHT."]

5.0 out of 5 stars The Political Zoo ROCKS! Michael Savage is the Mark Twain of our time!, May 6, 2006
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
I took the opportunity of a recent westward airplane trip to finish reading Michael Savage's latest book, "The Political Zoo," and I must say that, as with his past politically-themed best-sellers, Michael Savage is right on the mark once again with his latest effort. It's no surprise that Dr. Savage's "The Political Zoo" is his fourth to make it to the "Old York Times" best-seller list - virtually unprecendented for a nonfiction writer.

I found myself mildly chuckling, becoming enraged, and bursting out with laughter while reading about the various fauna that can be found in our "Real National Zoo," as Dr. Savage himself characterizes the variety of beasts that are catalogued within the pages of "The Political Zoo."

Let me add that if you think that the book is simply an amalgam of Savage sayings, you're in for a surprise. Dr. Savage backs up his characterizations with facts. Imagine that! (I suppose that imagining a world where there were facts is indeed fantasy land for most liberals.)

While it would be difficult for me to select a favorite description among the 40-plus entries, I could be pressed to selecting that of Al Gore (Pumice Ignoramus) as one of my favorites, because it most aptly describes the entity that came very close to stealing the 2000 Presidential election. I guess there is a God after all.

My only fault with the book is that it leaves out some otherwise noteworthy characters like Madeline Half-bright, Bob "Viagra" Dole, Ted Kennedy, or Chevy Chase. Heck, you'd need a few separate additional volumes to capture all the Hollywood nutcases.

Read it - savor it - then buy a second copy and pass it on to a friend (deserving or otherwise)!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you'd like to know the facts - this is a book for you!, May 2, 2006
This review is from: The Political Zoo (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book, which opens your eyes to many things the mainstreem media or a politician on either side won't tell you. Dr. Savage is a wonderful writer; this is a smart, witty and extremely well-researched book!
