2.0 out of 5 stars PAUL SELLS OUT ON MULTIPLE LEVELS
This allbum is made in response to the dark sides of the music industry, which produces boring music with little positive, inventive and interesting growth in hip-hop. Paul merely glazes over the issues, well known and easily identifiable to an intelligent audience. It seems that Paul, although making fun of the industry, has succumbed to the industry's will and is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Prince Paul is genius-Read this to understand, August 13, 2004
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
Prince Paul did this album after the falling out of his label. He was trying to make a horribly mediocre and bland and mainstream sounding album-don't you agree he achieved that? I'm amazed that he can pull of something so dreary and mainstream. I didn't think he had it in him. But he does it. In the liner notes, he even still feels "a good portion of people probably won't go beyond the surface of this album or care enough to even get the meaning or irony of this project." He intentionally tried to record a bland album. and he succeeded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album this year!, June 25, 2003
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
This is by far, the best album I have bought all year. Prince Paul has come back to claim the belt. The skits are funny, the beats are dope, and the colaborations are tight.

What more can I say? You have got to check this one out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, May 29, 2003

This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
First off let me start off by saying to the other guy who said before this album he had never heard of Prince Paul??!! You listen to Hip Hop and actually admit youve never heard of Prince Paul??!! Oh man, Prince Paul is a godfather of bringing original, creative and plain dope non mainstream hip hop to our ears. Ever hear of Stetsasonic or De La Soul?? If not do your homework and then holla at us! Saying youve never heard of Prince Paul is like saying youve never heard of Michael Jordan or Barry Bonds. Saying 50 Cent album is the best of the year, maybe as far as soundscan and record sales go it is, but come on is he really saying anything we have not heard before? Um..NO!
50 is a decent rap artist, but he is new kid on the block, he doesnt even belong in a category with Paul yet.

Now, as far as the album, it is simply Dope! Original, phat and a must buy for any TRUE hip-hop head!!

5.0 out of 5 stars YA'LL ARE WACK IF YA HATE ON P.O.T.B, September 4, 2006
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
Politics of the buisness is another classic by the most brilliant producer of all time Prince Paul. If you love the great production and long list of very gifted and great M.C's on his previous album A prince amoung thieves then you will definitley love Politics of the buisness. My man Paul came thru once again with track after track of ill nasty beats that are definitley a few steps ahead of the rest of the game and the M.C's on this album are the illest in the game. A true hip hop fan who appreciates ill wordplay and fantastic beats would certainly love this album but for y'all who want to hate ya'll can just go bump G-unit and Daddy Yankee and all that other wack crap out there!

4.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely hate it...and kind of like it at the same time., March 26, 2005
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
I respect Paul's view of the music industry, and in exectuting a record which basically mocks the modern sounds. I totally get what he was trying to do here..and I give him points for creating something that is sonically different from his other works, and doing it pretty well. The problem is that..since the music for the most part DOES sound like modern hip hop, it was very hard for me to listen to it. To me it doesn't show Prince Paul for who he is, which is what I really wanted to hear. The only track that I could really feel personally is "Chubb Rock, can you please pay Paul the $2200 that you owe him." It uses the beat from "Pease Poridge" from De Le Soul is Dead. It is the last track on the cd (sort of) and is the antithesis of everything you have heard before it...which is why I decided to give this album 4 stars instead of the 3 I was initially going to give it. That was a great way to end a album about politics...by basically lauging in it's face.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chubb Rock...pay Paul his money -- Punk, June 16, 2004
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
Another great concept album by the legendary hiphop producer Prince Paul, even though probably not as good as PRINCE AMONG THIEVES.

This time Prince Paul shares the hardships and misdirections of the music industry.

Of course -- Prince has musical contributions by everyone and their mom.
Including: MF Doom, the Beatnuts, Tash (of the Tha Alkaholiks, now just called Tha Liks), Tony Touch, Wordsworth, Fat Lip (formerly of the Pharcyde), Guru, Planet Asia, Jean Grae, etc.

Also, as with every album Prince Paul has several entertaining and humerous skits, especially the ones with comic Dave Chappelle.

The best track has to be:
"Chubb Rock Can You Please Pay Paul the $2200 You Owe Him" with Chubb Rock, Wordsworth, and the infamous MF Doom
(The track will make you ask -- Chubb just pay Paul what you owe him!)

Finally, there are 2 bonus tracks after "Life in the Day" which a remix of the track "Crhyme Pays" with Tash, the Beatnuts and Tony Touch and "My Life" with Fat Lip. (These were put on the album after the album leaked and was heavily bootlegged)

This is a great album to pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prince Paul rules over all y'all!, July 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Politics of the Business (Audio CD)
From Stetsasonic to De La to Gravediggaz and so on and so on, Prince Paul has always stayed fresh. This is not the 'Prince Paul goes pop' album like people are saying. It's a statement of irony; it's anti-pop. Paul has finally made another album you can throw on at a party without having to explain what it is and skip through a skit after every other song. What an awful run-on sentence that was. Buy this now!! Oh yeah, and if you're Chubb Rock, give Paul his money!
