5.0 out of 5 stars simply great
I have these in the back doors of my tahoe and the polk mm components in the front, they sound great. Better than kicker, infinity and alpine(all which I have bought before in other vehicles). Very good midrange and ear pleasing highs, no harshness at all.

I put these speakers into my car expecting something pretty decent after seeing the positive reviews. I had a great deal on them so I cant complain too much but I may be spoiled by previous car and home theater purchases. the speakers were fairly detailed across the board but they were missing refinement that makes others sound much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Coax Speaker., July 12, 2010

I Have these speakers in my rear panels. I have them paired in with some components in the front and they compliment each other very well. They don't just fill in sound, they really stand out and sound great. They have great response in bass, mid and highs. I highly recommend these Polk speakers and at there price here at Amazon, they are worth every penny and then some. If your looking for a very, very good coax Speaker and are considering these at just over a hundred bucks they are a steal. Do yourself a favor and consider these speakers if a Coax setup is what you are looking for as a part of your Car audio setup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Sound from MM651, August 6, 2008

This review is from: Polk Audio AA2651-A MM651 6.5-Inch Coax Speaker (Electronics)
These were installed in the front and rear doors of a 2007 Inifinty M35 with the base radio. I have been complaining to the auto dealer that there was no depth or clarity to the sound. The dealer rep said no one changes out the Infinity system because they are so good. I talked to installation shops and some said don't change the speakers because they are of such good quality add a amp, others said change the speakers. Confused I called Polk help and was advised to try the speakers first. These MM651 speakers make my system awesome. I play the radio at low to medium volume and the sound is superior, I now hear music with great claity and definition. The sound is now better with the basic stock Infiniti radio than the ultra premium Bose that I have in my Audi A6. I am totally satisified and really appreciate the help from the Polk reps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok at best, June 7, 2011

I put these speakers into my car expecting something pretty decent after seeing the positive reviews. I had a great deal on them so I cant complain too much but I may be spoiled by previous car and home theater purchases. the speakers were fairly detailed across the board but they were missing refinement that makes others sound much better.

Highs: The tweeters were quite harsh in my opinion. I personally like infinitys kappa and reference line much better in this department. they are well extended but they seemed to be harsh and metallic sounding rather than smooth and airy. still gave good detail though so maybe others will like the presentation

Mids: this was where I found the biggest problem. I really felt like they lacked definition, especially in the lower mids where I felt like male vocals were a bit off and lacking depth. the upper mids were probably the best part of this speaker but unfortunately were slightly tainted by the bright tweeters.

Lows: The bass was pretty darn good. Not the deepest ever, but thats what a sub is for anyway. Pretty good warm sounding bass that wasnt too bloated. Only problem I had is that it didnt react well to equalizers which I often messed around with on my inputs.

I used an mp3 player aux input and CDs for my review. It seemed like the speakers were alright but not for my general taste in music as I prefer a slightly warmer sounding speaker than these cold bright ones. Maybe I have a bad combo of amp and or interior dynamics in my car but I just cant quite like them as much as I hoped. great deal though and easy to set up, although the external crossover takes a bit of planning to mount.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn!!, April 22, 2011

Ok, so I just got these installed in my 06 Grandprix GXP....

History: Over the years pontiac (well GM in general) starting putting less and less into their Monsoon stereo system. I replaced the head unit with a XG-700 JVC a year ago because I wanted an IPod connection. Then replaced the 6.5's with some sony xplode 6.5's......garbage. Then 2 days later, pioneer 6.5's an install shop sold me......a little better, but no bass at all. Also had to turn my JVC up to like 50 just to hear the XM radio (has a weaker input signal).

I had these Polks put in today in the front, a BOSS 4 chan amp (50w rms per chan), two Kicker 0796 (something like that) 6x9's and a clarion EQ......

DAMN!! These Polks are crystal clear! And sensitive. the 6x9's have a S/N ratio of 92, these are 94 (anything over 91 is good to great), but these things are so load, I have to fade the eq about 85% to the back to balance out the speakers.

The have good range and are prob the best sounding 6.5's you will find if you have sensitive
ears like I do. The also produce more bass than my kicker 6x9's but I think the kicker's need to warm up or something.

NOTE: factory speakers in a monsoon post 2005 GM system are 2 omh, so when you install 4 ohm speakers you are gonna produce about 1/2 the volume at the same watts, so even if they speakers you get are better or clear, they will need more power. These are great at 2.7ohms. My 6x9's are 4ohm and I think I am going to turn up the gain on that channel of the amp.

**update: 13 Oct 2011** This puppies now produce nice mid-bass and sound so clear you can hear the artist breathing while singing. Also at 92 S/N ratio and 2.7 ohms, dont make the mistake I did and get 6x9's rated less than 92db, actually just go with these all around! I have to adjust the gain 80% to the back because these are so efficient.

Debated between these and the MM6501 for weeks and my budget side finally won. For about $100 a better set of speakers will not be found!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value, superior sound., January 20, 2012

This review is from: Polk Audio AA2651-A MM651 6.5-Inch Coax Speaker (Electronics)
I installed these in my 2012 Sonata (yes, they fit just fine despite what Amazon, Crutchfield, and others say), and I found an instantaneous improvement in sound clarity over my stock speakers. However, I wasn't overwhelmed. I expected a lot from these speakers (I have a nice Polk HT setup and love it, so I expected a lot), and was let down to a degree. However, I knew that I wasn't properly powering them (stock stereos typically are 5 - 10 watts RMS and these things take up to 100 RMS).

I then purchased an amplifier (not even a great one), and WOW did these things sing! I could not believe my ears. My music had LIFE, DEPTH, and CLARITY beyond my expectations! The difference is stunning. I could not be happier with this setup, and this is coming from someone who is VERY particular with sound (example: I hate BOSE speakers with a passion because they are awful sounding). They are warm (the silk tweeters are so pleasing to the ears - unlike those nasty horn tweeters that make your ears practically bleed), comfortably bright, crisp (the highs outshine everything with these - I feel like every cymbal hit is in the car with me), detailed, and creates a nice sound stage.

These guys handle down to 40 Hz, but mine are currently crossed over at 60 Hz. It CAN go down further, but I think it strains them more than necessary. But seriously, if you're going to get speakers this nice, you're gonna get a sub for the low end of the spectrum anyway, right?

Note to people self-installing: Took MANY HOURS for my car, because the crossover is fairly sizable, and most cars don't leave much room for random things in the door panels. I had to be really careful to ensure that the window wouldn't chop my wires (the crossover only fit BEHIND where the window sits when rolled down). Also, note that the crossover can be opened with a flat piece of metal with a little prying force. This allows you to easily install it using screws or zip ties.

Overall: Amazing product that continues the Polk tradition of sounding WAY better than any other speakers in its price range. They really have no business sounding this incredible for a little over $100 a pair. And for the average Joe who loves music and likes their speakers to be of a higher quality, this will do MORE than enough for you. Just make sure you add a sub for the real low-hitting notes (however, these have way more bass than my stock speakers had).

These are great speakers, mostly because they don't distort even at high volume and for the build quality, technologies used and materials chosen to build them, but how they sound, good or bad, depends on the way you like to listen to your music. So this speakers have a high sensitivity rating of 94 dB @ 1 V, this could be one of the reason why they are so bright in the mids and highs. I had to lower almost to the limit, all the eq bands of 1.25kHz, 2kHz, 3.15kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz and 12.5kHz on my head unit's eq, because of how bright these speakers get. They have a precise high definition for the vocals and highs, like cymbals etc, a crisp tweeter, with no harshness, but at lower volume levels. So again it is not that they are harsh which is a different thing, what they are is extremely sensitive and bright. If you crank it up from 50 % and up of the HU volume knob, they get really bright loud. I would say if you do not have external high power amplifier these speakers will be a great choice for OEM Head Unit or aftermarket Head Units power. Also be sure to hook them up with the included passive crossover box, if not you would not get the best out of them. I was powering them with an Alpine amp, model MRP-F300, 50w rms x 4, at 4 ohm, so these speakers were being fef by around 30 to 40 watts rms max (counting the normal ineficiency of class AB amplifiers)and they got really bright loud. Any way I would still recomend this speaker for it's build quality and materials and for people who only have the stock head unit or aftermarket head unit or for who ever has an external amplifier and likes bright sounding speakers, and again is not like they have a metallic tweeter sound like metal tweeter, since this have a silk soft dome tweeters, it just the overall brightness of the speaker, possibly caused by the high sensitivity of 94 db that they have. For the record I have had them for around 6 months, so this review is way after the break period of speakers and after several fine tunnings of amp and head unit. I will replace this speakers. At some point for what I described above, but I could have live with their brightess if it wasn't for that on one of the speakers the woofer died. Since the beggining it had a lot of distortion at 50 % volume or more until the point it just stopped working at all. This is ok, this does not mean they are bad quality speakers, it could just be that it was factory defective or that I might have gotten damaged because I did not use the included passive cross over during the first 5 months of the 6 months that I have had them, but it would be kind of weird because the other speaker sounds just fine. So I am stuck with a pair of good speakers that on one of them the woofer died and left only the tweeter sounding and I live in Costa Rica, so sending the speakers to Polk Audio for warranty will end up costing me half of what I could pay for another decent set of speakers. So this time I will give the Pioneer Premier TS-D602P 6.5-Inch 2-Way speakers a try, they have a sensitivity rating of 88 db, so I hope they will suit my listening demands.

I had the db series installed as they were on sale. I ended up blowing those out in 2 weeks. These were recommended as the best speaker. I got two pair on Amazon for $20 more than what the company wanted for a single pair and installed them myself. What a difference. Twice the wattage handling. Excellent sound. If you have an amplifier, get these... the db series are more for stock installations with just the tuner.
