5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!!
I had originally purchased the DB series 6x9 speaker and after installing a Polk PA500.4 amplifier decided I should upgrade the speakers a bit. Actually right after I bought the DB's I regretted not buying the MM's as the price difference was not that significant.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible
I had these things running on an Rockford Fosgate T400-4 amp with the gain and EQ Punch all the way down and they STILL blew. It was on an Alpine CDA-117 and they still didn't sound that great. RCA cables were top of the line as well. This is a garbage set of speakers, I was especially surprised to find this out because I have the 6 1/2 MM6501's in my doors and they sound...

I had originally purchased the DB series 6x9 speaker and after installing a Polk PA500.4 amplifier decided I should upgrade the speakers a bit. Actually right after I bought the DB's I regretted not buying the MM's as the price difference was not that significant.

After installing them, which took no time if you have installed speakers before, I fired them up and was immediately impressed. The sound is much fuller, and the highs are quite as harsh as they were with the DB's. The lows sound great and overall the sound quality is spectacular. Also these speakers do come with a crossover for the tweeter and woofer, so that will have to be mounted too. I just took some double sided scotch sticky pads and stuck those to the back and mounted them on the frame of the car. That way nothing is permanent! My only complaint is the speaker wire on the cross over is short, around 3 to 4 ft for everything so sadly amp system doesn't look as clean due to the wires hanging next to it. Not a big deal though.

Overall I am very pleased. I cant wait to get the MM6501 components for up front!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sounding speakers!, August 15, 2010

I purchased these for my wife's car and installed them myself. I was a little concerned at first because I bought them before I actually looked at the "what fit's your car" selector, and of course, it said they would not fit. (I checked this before I bought them, but I guess I was looking at another set of speakers, not realizing that these really were not supposed to fit) We have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and I was putting them in the rear deck. As it turns out, the issue is the height of the speakers. The tweeter and mid range speakers stick up high enough that they would touch the rear deck cover. However, that only happens if you use the stock Chevrolet plastic speaker mounting brackets that come on the stock speakers. Using those brackets lifts the speaker about an inch above the actual metal surface of the rear deck. What I did to solve that problem was mount them the old fashioned way, the way we used to mount rear deck speakers back in the '70s and '80s. I got in the trunk and held the speaker underneath the speaker hole from inside the trunk, used a punch to scratch the spots for the mounting holes and drilled the 4 holes from underneath. Then took the speakers and put them in the top and screwed them in,and they fit just fine. I was able to put the rear deck cover back in just the way it came out and everything fit perfectly. Once installed, they sounded great. We have a Kenwood DNX6140 and these things work great with it. They sound really good, so much better than the stock speakers! It really woke things up. They have good mid range and highs and the base is much better than stock. They don't hit like a set of subs of course, but are much improved over stock speakers. Highly recommended.

Bought these and put them in my Jeep CJ7. They are powered by JL Audio amp. They are very crisp yet powerful. Would definitely recommend.

Sound is good. Loud! 2.7 ohm impedance is oddball. Can't bridge or run in series with most amps.

Installed these in a 1991 Acura Legend Coupe after removing all the Bose equipment. THey bolted right in using the original screws but did require the underside of the grill to be trimmed down. They're powered by a Rockford Fosgate amplifier that it putting over 50 WPC to each speaker. The bass hits so hard that I had to remove the rear deck and tighten a few loose screws that were causing serious vibration. They handle the power easily. The highs are very clear and crisp. I'd buy these again for sure.

I don't know what happened... They showed no warnings of about to blow, but all of a sudden did one day, after having them a little less then a month. I wish I had bought something more cheap, instead of going with name brand Polk Audio... Very disappointed.

i purchased these speakers over the winter and installed them in a 97 dodge ram with an 800 watt sony amp. by far the sound quality was lacking from my perspective. eventually the speakers blew out and my grandfather bought the truck off me. i then installed cheap 6.5 inch pyramid speakers in the back that he had purchased and they sound better than these. im shortly going to order him a pair of the 6*9 pioneer 5 way 500 watt speakers i had them in a 91 boneville in highschool hooked up to a bridged 1000 wat kicker amp the speakers never blew out, shorted or lost there sound quality. if your looking for great sound and loud speakers get the pioneer 5 ways.
