Bought these Atrium 4's after my Bose 151's bit the dust after only 3 years. I was really annoyed with the quality of the Bose speaker especially lasting only 3 years even though I took them in every fall/winter. I was impressed with Polk Audio's dedication to outdoor quality and the outdoor endurance tests they run their speakers through - plus the fact they come with a 5 year warranty. So I took a chance and bought a pair without even listening to them. I hooked them up and I have to admit I was blown away by how much better they sounded than my old Bose - plus they were half the price. I was worried that the Atrium 4's wouldn't sound big enough to fill my backyard - approx a 40' x 60' foot space - but man, was I wrong! These speakers provided more than enough sound and even enough bass to sound great standing on the other side of the yard. In fact, I think they sounded better standing on the other side of the yard 60' feet away. Anyhow I recommend these to any one who wants great sound at a great price. Unless you are serious audiophile and have very understanding neighbors - you will be more than satisfied with these speakers. I cranked up AC/DC 'For those about to Rock' and I swear half the neighborhood could hear it.

i just puchased these as an early fathers day gift and my father was more than pleased. it gives you crystal clear highs and great clarity mids however i am fan of bass and it lacked slightly in that department. polk also sells a sub woofer to go with these speakers which i did not purchase but i would reccomend. i have a four channel amp and already have a set of rock speakers which do not lack the bass i desire so the four speakers combined make an excllent pair but all in all for the price you really cant beat the product.

I needed to write a review for these little guys. I am a Polk fan, I will admit it, but I wasn't expecting much from these speakers as they were under a Benjamin Franklin and just 4.5" drivers. I wanted something inexpensive and small, and I didn't need something to "rock" my deck...as I have fairly close neighbors. I only have about 6 hours of playtime on these so far (not yet broken in), as its still winter here in Colorado, but these deliver much more than I expeced. I have them perched under the eave on our patio facing down on the deck, as to try and not to distub my neighbors. For the price, they sound incredible. Crisp and clear highs and punchy bass. Their low end is not too deep, only a 4.5" driver and small sealed cabinet, but nevertheless, they have a nice full sound. Don't expect miracles here people. Can I find better?...of course. Can I find better at this price...good luck trying to find it. Brackets are an engineering feat...installation was so simple and adjustment is as well. Before I installed them, I had buyers remorse thinking that I should have at least bought the Atrium 5, or Def Tech 5500...but that remorse is gone. Any more speaker wouldn't serve much more purpose on our deck...and the price was, well...perfect. If I had wide open area or a pool, yes, I would have gone bigger. But like I said, these fit the bill...perfectly.

I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and sound of these speakers. The highs are crystal clear, with solid, concise mid's and lows. I was not expecting such quality sound. Installation was easy, but it would have been nice if screws were included. My hookup was to an old system. Even with such a "low-fi" source these sound amazing. I mostly listen to acoustic music and it seriously sounds like there is live music in my backyard! Take some time to experiment with location when installing. The best set up I found was on my covered porch, mounted in the outer eaves, angled down and facing BACK towards the house. The house wall deflects the sound back out across the yard and carries much better than when i mounted them against the house wall facing directly out. It greatly enhances the sound stage and projection.

Sound is little tinny for my taste, otherwise, well made speakers. They are surviving Texas heat and humidity in direct Sunlight for over a year.

Purchased these speakers for a fairly large outdoor area (deck). I wanted good quality sound, and speakers that would put out sufficient volume with a pleasing tone to be easily audible. I wanted to hear the same and simultaneous sound outside as inside, without too much degradation in volume. These speakers (while not "overly large") helped me accomplish that with their 4" speaker and 89db sensitivity. I recommend them enthusiastically!

I"m in a smallish loft and can get away with not having huge speakers. I have a 5.1 dolby digital sub/sat setup with a HTPC.
I replaced the stock Logitech Z5500 sats with Bose Acoustimass 3's for rears, and the main front left/right with the Polk Atrium 4's.
I'm pleased with the results. The Polks are warmer than the single driver in the stock Logitech speakers.
The footprint is slightly larger, but not by much. One speakers is on a shelf replacing the Logitech and the other is wall-mounted using the included bracket and spin locking mechanism. Easy as pie and I literally had it mounted in minutes...bravo Polk! I was picturing a guy up on a ladder trying to do the mounting under an awning and thought how much easier this system would make life.

As I said I'm in an apartment and want my neighbors to keep liking me, so I'll never crank these to wall shaking volumes, but I got them loud enough to realize these little suckers crank!

As far as movie applications:

These sound GREAT as mains in my setup. It took a bit of adjusting to get the rears/center rebalanced and the sound field adjusted with the Dolby Digital content I watched but after an initial 5-10 minutes to get it right I was amazed at how much larger my sound field really was! The Logitech's were, in comparison, flat to the Polks. They are bright without being too splashy and thin. The bass is warm, but I feel they are lacking in bottom end. Subwoofer makes up for the thin bottom end, so all-in-all they work for my setup.

I would, and will, recommend these speakers.

After hearing my friend's backyard deck speaker setup with the Polk Atriums, I had to get a pair too. Honestly the best speakers I ever purchased. Sound travels far in the yard and is very crisp. Not much bass but that is expected with the compact version of the Atrium series. Because of their size, you can install them anywhere. I just installed them directly at the top corners of the rear sliding doors so it was easy to hide the speaker wire in the side trim, then run the wire below the deck and into the basement through the joist boards. Hard to believe you can get a pair of speakers like these for around a hundred bucks. I installed these earlier this year around Father's Day and they are totally exposed to the elements. So far no rust and still look new, even after a few heavy storms. These speakers are made to withstand the elements. My friend's Atriums are a few years old and still look new. Check out reviews for cheaper speakers sets and you'll see that they rust and corrode only after one season. I can't think of any negatives.
