5.0 out of 5 stars Bose lost my business thanks to Polk

I was torn between the Infinity Ts series, the Onkyo's and the Polk RM models. After reading reviews after reviews of each maker, this one gets a lot of good reviews, the same with the Infinity's, so I decided for the Polk, hooked it up like they recommended. The center channel is very clear and crisp. The satellite speakers are actually better then my big floor...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bose lost my business thanks to Polk, February 10, 2006
This review is from: Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I'm no audiophile. Or maybe I am. I have a hard time believeing there are people with such discriminating ears that they "hate the harshness of digital audio over the warmth of old vinyl"--but maybe they do.

Anyway, I was impressed with the sales presentation Bose set up in their stores with the litle cubes and woofers and the impressive sound from such a seemingly small system.

I have been dreaming of replacing my system which had JBL monitors for the front and Boston Acoustics for the rear and an off-brand for the center.

Fortunately, I walked into a [Tweeter] store and asked if they had anything comparable to a Bose system, soundwise. To my delight--and surprise--on an objective A/B listening test in their showroom, BY COMPARISON the Bose speakers sounded "echoey" like they were being played through metal cans. I am not denigrating the Bose sound. To the contrary I always liked them, and still do... but in a side-by-side test, the Polks sounded cleaner, truer, and with REALLY good separation.

I listened to the opening scene of the movie Ice Age, which has GREAT dynamic range, subtlties, and moving surround, and I found that the audio--even the moving audio really surrounded me! It did not have the sense of "jumping" from this speaker to that... And the ground shook! Awesome presentation!

Well, we bought them. Hooked them up to a Pioneer integrated amp system, and things have never been the same. Even with CDs (I turn off the center speaker for music) the room is filled with clean sound, to the point that it's as if I got a whole new set of "better CDs."

I am totaly impressed, and if I lost them in a fire, I'd replace them in a heartbeat. Best system I have ever owned.

4.0 out of 5 stars RM6800 by a first time Home Theater user, September 19, 2005

This review is from: Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I'm no expert in audio, but I am an engineer and I know what I like. The RM6800 is a great deal for the money. I have mine driven by a Yamaha HTR-5890. The sats and center speaker are excellent.

My only complaint is the sub, it could do with a little more punch, but again for the money...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased, February 6, 2007
This review is from: Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I am starting to put together a new home theater system since my Sony receiver and my Bose speakers were getting pretty old. I had pretty much settled on either the Polk Audio RM6800 or RM6900. I finally decided to go with the 6800 (I actually own the black speakers, not the titanium) and I am very pleased with that decision. I hooked them up to my sony receiver (still need to get a new receiver) and my home theatre was suddenly revamped! These speakers sound so good that I am in no real hurry now to get another receiver.

I noticed in my research that Polk Audio gets a lot of bad reviews on their subwoofers. From my persective I can't see why. For me the Subwoofer that came with the system is sufficient (especially considering the price) for what I need. I do have to make adjustments to the volume occasionaly depending on the movie that I am watching, but it doesnt bother me.

We bought this Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System, Titanium Finish last month and we are definately very happy with the sound quality. They were very easy to set up and are very stylish with superb sound. each speaker has its own base treble and mid ranges for the best sound. The sub woofer is rather large but slim enough to look stylish. I hooked up these speakers to a panasonic digital receiver with different digital sound options and they truley make a movie night more fun. My entire system with receiver cost less then $900.00. The lame sound from bose will cost you double this amount.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Sounding Speaker Package, January 29, 2009
This review is from: Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
One of the Best sounding Package, Defies the size, dont be fooled by the size alone, need to hear it to believe it, the competing brands come nowhere close to this in quality, and at a great price too. the subwoofer blend very nicely with the small speakers, The bass is very adequate and sweet not harsh or bottoming out, medium and HF is very natural and not harsh at all, need to find the right setting depending on the room acoustics and reverberation properties. Very highly recommended if you have a small to medium size halls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surround Sound, January 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Polk Audio RM6800 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I purchased this Polk package because it was just a few dollars more than buying the 4 Polk individual satelite speakers that I needed. So I ended up with an extera 100 watt subwoofer [ 2 are better than 1 ]and a nice Center speaker to use some other place. I am using the 4 new satelite speakers as surround speakers with a CSI5 center and RTi-8's for left and right main speakers. Also have a PSW 505 subwoofer in there somewhere. The combination is working well for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable speakers, March 11, 2007

I was torn between the Infinity Ts series, the Onkyo's and the Polk RM models. After reading reviews after reviews of each maker, this one gets a lot of good reviews, the same with the Infinity's, so I decided for the Polk, hooked it up like they recommended. The center channel is very clear and crisp. The satellite speakers are actually better then my big floor standing speakers from sharp and the rear klh speakers. Everything is very clear, I hook these up to my Onkyo TX-SR674 love the auto set up test from Onkyo, it actually helps you how to set up your speakers. The only drawback is the subwoofer, it does not have the thunder bass I was looking for, maybe it's only a 10 inch woofer with very low watt power. I was not happy at first and couldn't figure out why it doesn't sound the way I want it, it sounded it fake, it didn't sound like a theater system, I switch the subwoofer and used my KLH 12 inch 200w subwoofer and bam! Sounds awesome now. Not sure if the one I bought has something wrong with it, but other reviews mention the subwoofer is pretty good. All in all it's a good speaker system
