Reasonably Priced Surround Sound package,

This review is from: Polk Audio RM6900 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I purchased this speaker system to replace a Bose Lifestyle system that I moved to another room. I have to say that the sound quality is surprisingly better than Bose's much more expensive cube speakers and Acoustimass module. The included setup directions were easy to follow, but I did double check information on the Polk Audio website and found a great deal more detail on the best configuration for home theater speakers. The included wall mounting brackets were quite easy to use. I didn't need the front speaker stands and I am not sure who would actually use them (they have a large footprint but are less than a foot tall). Overall, I think for $800 this is a pretty good speaker solution for a 5.1 home theater speaker package.

The Polk Audio RM6900 5.1 cnannel home theater Speaker System has proved to live up to its reputation. I tried out several speaker systems in that class including the Bose Acoustimass 6 and 10 and found a clear difference. The Polk of course being superior in all aspects. It was very easy to assemble but required speaker wires that was not supplied with it (unlike Bose). The set up was quite simple and step by step assembly is provided.
The transaction was effortless and the merchandice was shipped promptly. When I purchased the product it was priced at $999 but it dropped to $799 a week later. I contacted Amazon and they refunded the difference without any questions. ZG

These Speakers are the Best Bang for the Buck,

I limited myself to about $1000 in total of what I could spend on a Surround sound system for my HDTV. I wanted something not so obtrusive and something that would rock the house if I wanted to. I spent weeks, make that months researching reading reviews, forums and actually going to stores and people's houses to hear what they had.
I narrowed it down to the two best systems I could buy as a package: JBL and Polk Audio. Evey pair of JBL's I have had have rocked when hooked up to a proper reciever such as Marantz, Denon or Harmon Kardon. Even my truck has JBL's and they rock for a factory system. So the Polk was going to have to edge them out significantly or I was set on JBL. So I went to Circuit City spent like 2 hours comparing the RM series to Boston's JBL's, Bose and every thing else. The Polk has the best range out of any of them and if you listen to an orchestra or any type of music that will involve lots of unique sounds you will definitly notice the difference. They didn't put the JBL's or Boston's to shame but they embarrased the Bose system. In my house they fill the room and the house with clarity even at the top decible range. I knew I made the right decision when we were watching CSI quietly on TV, and my better half went silent for a brief moment and thought there was a helocopter flying over our neighborhood at 10:00 pm and it was really just the show. At such a low volume even the surrounds come to life in a way no other speakers I have had could match. Granted you can definately spend a lot more money and get a lot more speaker, but unless you have a really big room you wouldn't need anything more than these to get the same effect as a movie theatre. I have these speakers hooked up to a Harmon Kardon AVR-635 which I got wit a 5 year warrenty Open Box from Circuit City which has amazing clarity output, and all speakers run through Python 14 guage speaker wire. I chose Python because it has the same oxygen free copper wire and construction grade of Monster for 1/5th the price. So when I broke it down: $599 for $1200 speakers. $400 for an $800 Reciver and 150 Ft of cable for $40. I really do feel I got a $2000 system for $1000 out of my pocket.

Clear, warm sounding speakers,

The Polk Audio RM6900's have a crystal-clear sound without sacrificing warmth. Movie dialogue is much easier to hear now than with my old two-speaker system, and music (classical, jazz, heavy metal) sounds great too. Some people have criticized the subwoofer for not being powerful enough, but I find it plenty powerful, and it adds a lot of depth to the overall sound. In addition, these speakers are great looking and fairly compact.

I purchased these speakers for a home theater I built in my basement. It's a fairly big room (25'x18') and I wanted speakers that could fill the room with sound. This system does exactly that. I also have a Sony HTIB in another room so I have been able to do a direct comparison. The Polk Audio system is superior in every way. Voices are crystal-clear, the bass is deep but not booming. I tested the system using a battle scene from Lord of the Rings and it was like I was standing on the battlefield! Playing music, the speakers are much closer in sound quality to my hi-fi speakers than to the Sony HTIB speakers. Added to that, they even look good.
I was initially concerned that the extra cost of purchasing this system would not be worth the investment. Having lived with the speakers for a week now, I'm convinced they are worth every penny.

Great system -affordable price.,
This review is from: Polk Audio RM6900 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Titanium) (Electronics)
I brought one of these systems about fur weeks ago, after reading a cnet review talking about a poor performance of the subwoofer. I decided to take the risk, and combine the speakers with a good AV amplifier/reciever. The first fact here is that if you have spent about 600 bucks in a high performance speaker set, please, buy a good amplifier. I'm using a Yamaha rx-v659, and it sounds great. Second Fact, a good portion of your 600 is spent in the subwoofer. In this set, is a huge speaker with autonomous power and high capabilities. So, if you have such excelent machine in your hands, please, let it do the work, connect the subwoofer in the way that Polk says, not by the subwoofer out in your amplifier, even by the LFE out.
I tested all te possible connections and found that the best is by the provider's book. Then I tested te set with King Crimson Concert Eyes Wide Open, and the difference is astounding. Trey Gunn's stick guitar sounds loud and clear, is a pure sound, sounds like having an electric bass in your hands. The purpose of this set is not to blow up your ears, is to make you hear pure and accurate sound, is a real value for your money set.

I PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE POLK 3750'S SET AND THE IDEAL THING TO DO IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND MORE MONEY IS TO UPGRADE RIGHT? LAST WEEK MY PLAN WAS TO GET SOMETHING BETTER UNDER $1000. WHEN I WALKED IN TO CIRCUIT I TOLD THE SALESMAN WHAT I HAD .... AND EXPLAINED TO HIM EXACTLY HOW MUCH I WAS WILLING TO SPEND FOR SOMETHING BETTER.
THE SALESMAN SOLD ME ON A HARMON KARDON 6.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM FOR $799.99 THAT RETAILED FOR $999.99..... NOT BAD HUH? WHEN I GOT HOME IT TOOK ME HOURS TO SET UP. THIS WAS STRANGE SINCE I AM REALLY GOOD WITH INSTRUCTION MANUALS... TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT- THE SYSTEM SOUNDED AWFUL. I HAD SPENT AN EXTRA 500 BUCKS FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT I HAD BEFORE.... SO I WENT BACK TO STORE RETURNED CHEAP SYSTEM AND BOUGHT THE POLK RM6900'S WITH THE CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER FROM THE POLK 6750 TO ACCOMODATE MY TX 502 ONKYO 6.1 RECEIVER. IT TOOK ME LESS THAN AN OUR TO SET UP EVERYTHING AND THE SOUND? AMAZING. IF YOU ARE INTO BASS THIS IS THE ONE. NEVERMIND THE EXPENSIVE BOSE SYSTEMS.

Ditto -- Speakers awesome, but Sub is lacking,

These speakers are great! I'm running them on a Pioneer Elite 81TXV. The speakers are absolutely amazing, as is the receiver. Now I just need to pick up two more satelites for full 7.1 surround.
As mentioned in previous reviews the sub is lacking. I have the sub connected via the LFE input from the preout on the receiver. The recommended set up in the directios was too confusing and required too much speaker wire. I intend to replace the sub at some point in the future. I hope that my short review helps!

Outstanding speakers for movies and TV. And they look good too. They blow my previous Bose system away. Also very good for casual music listening (as far as small speakers go; comparable to some decent bookshelf setups).
One word advice I think someone else mentioned...don't skimp when it comes to buying a quality amp. I first connected the Polks to my budget Sony receiver and the sound was OK, not great. Once my new Onkyo arrived, these speakers really came to life. I also hooked up the sub like Polk recommended versus directly to the receiver. For better music quality, I plan purchasing larger Polks and using them in the front and using this system to fill out a 7.1 setup. For now, these rock for DVDs and HDTV and do pretty good with my IPOD and music CDs. |
