The quality is further enhanced by the patented PowerPort bass venting technology, which extends and strengthens the lower midrange performance to ensure a seamless blend with the subwoofer output. The result is a midrange with virtually no "hole" between the speaker and sub frequencies, helping male vocals sound rich and full rather than thin and weak, as with most other home theater speaker systems. Meanwhile, the speaker's curved cabinet shape and internal angled partitions help break up standing waves for superior clarity. Additional sound-enhancing features include anti-diffraction grilles, which minimize diffraction to produce a spacious, three-dimensional sound image, and Mylar capacitors in the crossovers, which extend the high-frequency response and improve the audio detail.
Each RM50T speaker does quite well as a standalone stereo speaker, but is particularly powerful when teamed with other tonally matched Polk RM series models in a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 surround sound system. And serious audiophiles will delight in the speaker's dual bi-ampable, five-way binding post inputs. Bi-amping lets listeners connect two sets of cables to the rear of the speaker--one set for woofers and one set for tweeters--with each set carrying its own amplified signal. The discrete amplification creates a sound with more headroom and impact.
As a final bonus, the speaker is magnetically shielded against video interference, so you can locate it near a TV or video monitor without distorting the picture. The titanium-finished speaker, which measures 6.19 by 45.12 by 7.88 inches (W x H x D), comes with an accessory spike kit for positioning at an optimal angle. It's also backed by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.

very good value for money,

for $550 per speaker for the "pewter" (brushed dark gray metal) these speakers compare very well to speakers at the next level (I switched these for the front two speakers, in a 5 speaker surround system, and replaced some very similar look/feel Celestion floor standing speakers which cost a lot more) and the bass enhancement in the foot does make a good blend to the sub-woofer in a 5 speaker surround system.

Happy and Impressed overall.,
This review is from: Polk Audio RM50T Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Pewter) (Electronics)
I had an Onkyo receiver and Polk sound system before and was satisfied with the quality and sound before so I decided to go with the same combination again.Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase of the Polk RM50T's. I couldn't pass up the great deal online at $400/pair, brand new and shipped. I hooked them up to my Onkyo TX-SR705 and originally just had the two speakers without a center speaker. The sound was ok, barely adequate and it felt like it just needed more. There definitely wasn't enough bass although the mid's and high's seemed pretty clear. So...I decided to hook up my Polk sub from my previous system, surround speakers and I also purchased the matching center speaker (Polk RM302). After hooking everything up, I have to say that I'm very happy with the sound. Having the center speaker definitely made a huge difference in the clarity of vocals and dialogue. When playing music, the sound is crisp and clear and when watching movies, the complete system really rocks. These Polk speakers have great sound reproduction, good midrange, crisp highs and an impressive soundstage when in a complete system. The 4.5" drivers are sufficient for someone who has a mid-sized room. Having a large room would definitely require bigger drivers (5.25"). The curved cabinet along with the pewter brushed finish looks really elegant alongside our Sony 60" tv...definitely a good match. I would definitely recommend these speakers. I am very satisfied with the sound for the money that was spent.

I love these speakers...worth every penny...here are the pros and cons:PROS- *Curved design makes for even sound *Magnetic shields mean you can place them next to your tv without problem *Dual binding posts for bi-amplification or bi-wiring *Sleek metallic finish with interesting curved design *Better bass response than the RM7400T/RM40T *Floor standing for convenient portability CONS- *Needs more equipment to get a "complete" home theater
