5.0 out of 5 stars Top Rate
These speakers are top rate in sound quality! I use them for classical music and I find the mid to high frequencies to be excellent. As with all speakers this size, however, a subwoofer is necessary if you want the full range of bass to really rumble.

3.0 out of 5 stars They're good
I wanted to get speakers that would blow me away and these did not. They sound good don't get me wrong but I guess for $150 nothing will blow you away. My expectations may have been too high and that is not the speaker's fault, that's mine.

I paired these up with an Onkyo tx-609n. This is better than buying an HT-in-a-box system though and you don't NEED a sub...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Little Speaker, June 25, 2004

I have played these with a 50 watt/channel receiver and a 125 watt/channel preamp/power amp setup. The RTi4's sounded great with both. They have very good bass for the size. The music sounds very natural. I recommend these highly, and I am pretty picky.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but Good, January 18, 2008
This review is from: Polk Audio RTi4 High Performance Bookshelf/On-Wall Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I listened to these speakers at a store before buying them online. They don't quite have the full sound of a good floor standing speaker, but are very close in quality to my Infinity SM85s, which are excellent. Put a subwoofer with these and they are outstanding. If I had to, I could get by w/ out the woofer. I listened to quite a few bookshelf speakers and this was the best.

Polk Audio has once again produced a "near perfect" speaker. This is the first bookshelf speaker I have purchased in about fifteen years, so I am not the authority I once was on "the latest and greatest" in all things audio, but I will tell you for the money this is one outstanding deal. The sound quality is exceptional!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers for the price, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Polk Audio RTi4 High Performance Bookshelf/On-Wall Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I've been listening to these speakers for over a week and am highly pleased. My previous system was a sony stereo system 120 watts per channel. Not only do these speakers have better quality, but they are louder.

I don't normally write reviews for products that I purchase online, but I figured since I was so pleased I should share my experience. Definitely use good wires to hook these babies up or you wont exploit their full potential. The RTi's have good bass but I feel like I need to add a sub to feel lower frequencies. When I turn the bass up it's too straining on the speakers, hence a sub.

Can't wait to add a sub to this banging setup! No regrets!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for acoustic music and vocals, June 23, 2007

These speakers are small enough to fit easily in a bookcase yet put out enough undistorted volume to nearly fill my house. They didn't do too well with bass-heavy music (I tried the Fugees) but they were extremely good with vocals from Bobby McFerrin--warm, sharp, responsive. I couldn't stop smiling while I was listening to McFerrin on these. Combine these with a subwoofer and you'll have a system good enough for listening to just about anything. I've combined them with a 5.1 speaker system from Polk, so I've got the home theater and pure music experiences both covered.
The styling is very nice: the grill is a curved shape that projects out from the housing, and the black finished wood veneer is quite pretty.

Excellent price, the sound is not quite what was expected but easily manipulated. Very crisp and clear high end. Perhaps a frequency response curve would be useful. The speakers have a pretty hard honk in the 1K-2K Hz range but it can be softened up with a graphic EQ. I have them paired up with a 2x12" folded sub in a small room and with a minimum of tweaking the system sounds very clear, very natural and surpisingly powerful given the small size of the Polk speakers. They handle power well and my amps start to distort well before the speakers will. The aesthetics are great - small footprint and great lines. Certainly a high quality component.

I am not an audio expert, but I am extremely pleased with the Polk RTi4 high performance bookshelf speakers. They came promptly and had excellent packaging. I actually got them to improve on the sound coming from my Sony TV. There is a dramatic improvement. I am using a high end amplifier with no surround sound. The voices are very clear and the music is excellent. There is adequate base for me but some might want a separate subwoofer. The highs are very clean, nice for classical and casual music. I recommend them highly.

I was replacing my old school Technics cabinet speakers with these. I heard them in the store and found them very impressive. Once I connected them to my Sony receiver I was totally amazed. These speakers are WELL worth the money and can be mounted right on the wall. Reggae and Metal sound really good, with very good surprising bass response. I am very happy and would recommend these speakers to anyone.

Recently purchased these speakers, and for the price, WOW, they produce, and have plenty of bass for the living room. Size is just perfect. I must say compared to may of the options out there I don't think you'll find a better pair of bookshelf speakers if your budget minded and appreciate high quality sound. I'm using them with a record player and the sound resonates beautifully. I would argue that Polk has hit a home run for these speakers. These are a can't miss if your looking for big sound in a small package.
