I am a very picky shopper who does a lot of research before I buy and I won't stand for not getting my money's worth - That's why I'm glad I bought the Polk Audio RM6005 speaker package from Crutchfield (through Amazon.com) last month. I am very happy with this speaker set. I wouldn't label myself an audiophile, but I do appreciate really good sound and I can't imagine you could get any better in this price range or even above.
I coupled these speakers with the Sony SA-WM250 100-Watt Active Subwoofer and wow - this is a truly impressive setup for $299 total. Don't let anyone tell you that this is too cheap to sound awesome. I did some research on speaker wire and found several articles that convinced me that it's all in the size of the wire - it doesn't matter if it's oxygen free, monster cable or lamp cord. I bought a 100' spool (and another 25' package) of RCA 16 gauge speaker wire at Walmart for about a third of the cost of monster cable and it sounds fantastic. Read the other reviews of Polk Audio speakers and Crutchfield and don't hesitate on these at all!

Not what I hoped for,
This review is from: Polk Audio RM 6005 - 5.0-channel home theater speaker system - black (Electronics)
I always considered the Polk brand as an upscale choice.
These speakers sound like they are just there making noise. Audio is like wine; hard to describe but easy to enjoy if it is done well. I wanted to have a small home theater setup for a Mitsubishi LCD TV and have music channels play without the TV on. I have a higher end Sony receiver and tried the speakers; flat dead uninspired sound like a boombox came out. This led me to try way too many choices on the equalizer etc. Since it sounded like a boombox I pulled the detachable speakers from my five year old Panasonic boombox; they were clearly better as was the sound from the small Mitsubishi TV speakers, an old pair of Kenwood and outdoor Bose speakers. Every setting and every speaker we tried was superior to this Polk even after a lot of messing with the receiver. Maybe no one can make smaller speakers that sound real. Best luck in your search but I suggest you pass on this model. |
