Product Description

Product Description

This Instant Home Theater is about more than creating sound far beyond what any TV speakers can produce. The 9000 is about transforming your flat panel into an amazing home theater experience. Polk technology and innovation make this possible. For starters, you'll hear superior center channel intelligibility thanks to the Optimized Center Array, a feature that employs all of the bar's drivers. Then, like real component systems, we use the critical 80Hz crossover point for bar and sub to minimize localization of the sub and create the ideal blending. But perhaps most impressive, we've created a component quality sound bar that reproduces true 5.1 channel audio in DTS or Dolby Digital. When you augment those surround formats with our proprietary SDA Surround Technology, you'll hear why the SurroundBar 9000 IHT is the best sounding bar/subwoofer system.

From the Manufacturer

The SurroundBar 9000 Instant Home Theater not only delivers all the convenience of our earlier sound bars, it also delivers the best sonic performance of any sound bar/sub system currently on the market. It was designed to bridge the gap between the convenience of a single-speaker/wireless subwoofer system and the sonic performance of a component home theater. With the 9000 you experience greater dynamic range, incredible system clarity and bigger, richer bass. Your TV viewing experience will be nothing short of astounding.

key features

  • 8-channel amplifer each of the five mid-bass drivers and each of the three tweeters is driven by its own dedicated amplifier channel for greater dynamic range and clarity.
  • Optimized Center Array (OCA) This is an amplitude tapered array design that uses all five mid-bass drivers to contribute to center channel performance.
  • Full Complement Bass (FCB), which is a feature of the bar and not the subwoofer as you might suspect, works in the 80 Hz-200 Hz range, where most instruments and voices gain their richness.
  • Polk's patented SDA® surround technology creates a broad, deep and tall sound field that extends along the side walls and overhead with a high degree of specificity.

technology

8-Channel Amplifer
Each of the five mid-bass drivers and each of the three tweeters is driven by its own dedicated amplifier channel for greater dynamic range and clarity.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
This is the most powerful DSP ever incorporated into any of our SurroundBars and is capable of 160 MIPS (millions of instructions per second!!). DSP packs an incredible amount of processing power into a small space, controling delay, frequency shaping, crossover points, signal mixing and parametric compression.

Optimized Center Array (OCA)
This is an amplitude tapered array design that uses all five mid-bass drivers to contribute to center channel performance. The result is unprecedented clarity and intelligibility of center channel information over a wide listening area. Everyone hears natural sounding, clear dialog, while musical instruments and center-channel effects are anchored to the screen.

Dolby Digital & DTS Decoding
Both optical inputs can decode and reproduce Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 program material. Many bars can decode 5.1 but can only reproduce it as 2-channel stereo. The SurroundBar 9000 IHT plays back all discrete channels as intended for optimal surround performance and fidelity.

Full Complement Bass (FCB)
Is a feature of the bar and not the subwoofer as you might suspect, works in the 80 Hz-200 Hz range, where most instruments and voices gain their richness. FCB is based on the idea of several smaller drivers working together to create the effects of a much larger one. Here the five drivers create an equivalent surface of a 5 1/4" mid-bass driver. The effect is that the lower midrange and upper bass have a richer tonal quality and speedier transient response.

Polk's Patented SDA Surround Technology
Creates a broad, deep and tall sound field that extends along the side walls and overhead with a high degree of specificity. You hear a vivid 5-channel sound field from a single source; no rear speakers or special room characteristics are required.

Polk Digital Logic®
A proprietary DSP program, controls our SDA surround technology to an even finer level, ensuring strong image localization cues and a greater sense of ambience and space no matter the shape of the room.

Enclosure & Grille
The SurrounBar's enclosure is a combination of ABS and polymethyl methacrylate (Plexiglass), which adds extra rigidity, torsional strength and higher damping factor. This makes the enclosure more acoustically inert and less resonant. The grille frame is a single molded piece wrapped with cloth. And as with high-end loudspeakers, the grille has no lattice work in front of any of the drivers or tweeters to ensure dispersion is unimpeded.

Dual Tuned-port Enclosure
Design optimizes the realistic blending of mid-range drivers with the wireless subwoofer, for more dynamic performance throughout the room.

Touch-Sensitive Keypad
Controls are easily accessible on the bar.

SmartBar™ Programming
SmartBar progamming enables the SurroundBar 9000 IHT to easily learn volume up/down and mute from your existing TV IR remote control. You'll use only one remote for the SurroundBar and your TV (backup remote included).

Shallow Design
Just 2 1/4" deep. Complements today's high performance flat panel TVs.

Installs Anywhere
Installes easily with simple secure built-in keyhole slots

Easy Plug-and-Play Connections
With no complex setup or calibration needed. The SurroundBar and subwoofer come from the factory already paired. They work together right out of the box.

Four source inputs
Including two optical audio inputs. Plays all digital source material, including DD5.1, DTS5.1. Includes 6' optical cable for the quickest, easiest, highest performance connections.

Compact 150 Watt wireless subwoofer
Features 8' poly-composite Dynamic Balance® woofer and flared J-port for big bass with low distortion.

Lossless wireless technology
You can put the wireless subwoofer anywhere within 50' of your SurroundBar 9000 IHT and experience the thrill of cinema-level bass effects.

Energy Star certified.

Customer Reviews

This is a great High-end soundbar that's worth every dollar.
Kevin
The included optical audio cable fits, but I had planned to give each of my devices (an Apple TV and a cable box) their own direct input to the soundbar.
Sheri Bulgatz
Pros: Easy set up, very good quality sound (optical input), more than loud enough for small to medium rooms.

Pros: Easy set up, very good quality sound (optical input), more than loud enough for small to medium rooms.

Cons: Do not expect 5 channel sound from this (or possibly any) sound/surround bar, no HDMI input, hissing noise from analog input, small amount of glue where grill was attached was evident.

This was bought for a living room. Its primary purpose was to allow me to watch movies and listen to music without too many wires everywhere. Set up was straightforward. Mounting on the wall was a bit tough since I did it alone and had a hard time aligning the key hole slots with the screws on the wall. Ended up scratching the back of the bar quite a bit. Bottom line, get some help if you are going to wall mount this. That said, hookup and use were beyond easy. Subwoofer synced up with bar easily and functioned without any drops or lags. Did not program the bar for use with my TV remote.
I tried listening first on my ipod classic hooked up via the mini RCA input. The result was below average quality sound with some degree of background hiss. This was always the case, even when I backed off the volume on the playback device. Same occurred with Pandora music played off a smartphone. I did contact Polk about this and they said that this was not normal and I should return this for a replacement. Had I bought this at a brick and mortar store, I would have. Not wanting to to deal with return shipment and a wait for a new one, I tried using the optical input.
Using the optical output of my Panasonic Bluray player, music from Pandora or CDs was spectacular. Lord of the Rings soundtrack was amazing. Mumford and Son had detail and depth. This unit does not lack clarity or bass with two channel stereo fed optically.

Bought the Polk 9000 January 7th, so far no problems looks nice under our tv.
Music sounds great and movies sound excellent.

Watched several movies and the sound can make you jump out of your seat...it is a powerful sound system.

Watched Titanic blueray with DTS master audio with my wife last night and set the Blueray player audio for the same(the sound bar LED was orange for DTS). To our amazement both of us were looking in the corners behind us thinking something hit the walls...how is that possible with a sound bar?

I went to Best Buy and sat in their studio to watch part of a movie - no doubt their system had more surround and I'm sure it's louder, but for this price and simplicity we have no regrets.

Pro's: Sound, ease of setup, Support of DD/DTS 5.1, Multiple Source Inputs
Con's: Price, input position, IR range

Just bought one from my local Fry's electronics, thanks to amazon's low price, they matched it.

I researched soundbars/soundbases/3.1 satellites systems quite extensively and decided on a soundbar. I then researched low, middle and high end sound bars quite extensively. I read reviews and checked prices. I did not actually listen to any system, because the sound from the component is definitely dependent upon the environment it is put in. I wanted to actually like the specs and numbers first before I heard the system so that I would be happy with my purchase, instead of playing the game of buying and listening and being disappointed and returning and so on....

So spec wise I really liked the numbers as compared to all other sound bars. System delivers a total of 510 watts (360 bar & 150 sub), which is awesome. Bar has 5 mid speakers and 3 tweeters each with its own amplified channel. Bar to Sub crossover is around the 80hz mark which distributes the low frequencies seamlessy. Enough about the specs, those are just highlights that really caught my attention. This one I would categorize in the top tier of the middle of the pack sound bars. I'm no Audiophile Fanatic but I do appreciate great sound, and as a musician for my local church, I do understand sound frequencies, direction of sound and quality of the sound. From Wikipedia page the average the human ear can 20 to 20,000 Hz, so buying a sound system that goes outside of that scope is pointless in my opinion.

Sound is amazing compared to the TV speakers. My previous surround sound system experience was a 5.2 system comprising of a Sony receiver with Polk satellites and subs.

Be careful depending upon how and where you place the Polk 9000 soundbar, the digital optical inputs plug into the bottom of the unit, not the back. This only becomes an issue if you plan on using your own optical cables and not the one provided by Polk. For a custom installation like mine this created a cosmetic nightmare, soundbar will not sit flat on a shelf if you use your own cables.

Best Quality of Sound. - I bought 6500 and 9000 the 6500 was not of any match to 9000 best quality voice. Depth of voice is very good. Missing few of the controls like either graphics (vocal cinema kind of) or some other way. But yes one bass switch is there which is very useful. Remote can be little more good whatever is there is too small and need to be used straight in front.
