The Mark Levinson (ML) subs in 2001 - 2003 Lexus LS430 are notorious for blowing-up very easily. Lexus ML replacements cost $350 - $400 (plus labor) ! ! :(

I decided to pass ML and instead went with the Polk Audio db840DVC sub which cost me less than $60 (inc. S&H) and installed it myself. Even though the ML sub has a 12ohm impedance vs the Polk at 8ohms (4+4), the Polk works great. I'd say it sounds better than the original ML sub :)

I replaced my Mark Levinson stock subwoofer in my 2003 Lexus LS430 and it works great. Although I was somewhat worried about how it was going to sound not being in an airtight box, it actually turned out to be great. Also, the magnet was much thicker than I thought it was going to be. The stereo shop that installed my sub couldn't believe the price I paid for this. I would recommend this speaker for anyone looking to replace an 8" sub.

got this to replace a blown sub for my polk audio theater sub, turns out its was a little bit bigger then the old one, but after some fabrication. got it to fit and turns out the problem was the amp. rigged up an old car amp to it and does it hit hard. shakes the whole house, and gives off great sound. enough to rival a 12"

I upgraded the head unit in my '98 LS400, and added an aftermarket amp to power the factory subwoofer since the factory equipment is unusable with an aftermarket radio (you have to hard-wire everything under the seat). I was disappointed with the sound of the factory sub and selected the Polk as a drop in replacement. The difference is astounding. The suspension on the Polk is easily twice as stiff as the factory sub which means it can actually handle pounding low frequencies without bottoming out. You actually feel the music in your back now. It blends nicely with the rest of the system and seems to handle a pretty decent amount of power considering it's being used in a free-air setup. Note I would not recommend this as a replacement if you're still using the factory radio/amp because it will have nowhere near enough power to run this thing.

I went with a 8" sub out of necessity, had the box and like my trunk space. I was impressed with Polk Audio since I heard their home speakers years ago. I was blown away by the bass response from an 8" and the accuracy you get from most types of music...(rap, rock, metal). I am not a bass junky, I like deep bass but I like driving without my eyes shaking like a rear-view mirror from twin 15" subs with 2000 watts rms each. This sub does the job and makes deep, QUALITY bass notes. I have only 1 complaint, I may need to install some sound dampening material to keep the trunk from rattling. Get this sub and your tunes will sound exquisite and your trunk will have lots of room for lots more junk.

The Polk db840 is in my opinion the best replacement sub for the Lexus SC430. The sound is tight and loud, very loud. Try this if you want a better bass sound in your car.

Even though I had to cut and crimp my factory terminal for this sub (and have only made 3 payments) it was worth it because Jeep placed an Infinity sticker on an 8" DVC POS. I also made a 1" spacer from plywood, MDF wood be better, and I mounted that spacer to the Jeep and then I used the Polk DVC hardware to mount the speaker to the spacer. The mounting holes of Polk do NOT match up to the factory hole, oh well, I ordered the speaker cover to match it. I may end doing a 2" spacer and see how the increased volume of air reacts with this woofer.

This woofer is great buy and what Jeep should of used in the first place. This speaker is also marine quality and if you have owned a Jeep for a while I am sure most of us have gotten caught in the rain with the top down.......I think this sub is more inclined to handle moisture better.
