A BOOK THAT WILL TRULY MAKE YOU THINK!,

This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
I never do reviews but after reading, "Pollen and the Ring of Harmony", I wanted to say something about this very special book. It made me realize the great damage we are doing to our planet and if we don't change the way we are treating it we will loose this special place. I am not a reader but I read this book in one night and that is a first for me. This book somehow changed me into being more aware of our environment. I want to read it again. I totally related to "Pollen", and after a few pages he felt like my best friend. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

YOU REALLY NEED TO READ THIS WORK AND THINK ABOUT IT!,
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
There are books that are enjoyable to read and carry you beyond your everyday troubles and allow you escape. There are books that shock, scare and amaze you and there are books that simply inform you. It would be difficult to place Pollen and the Ring of Harmony in any given category as there is a little bit of everything here; an offering for all who read it. This work is quite suitable for a wide range as to age groups. I loved it as an adult (a rather old one I might add), but feel that most teens would appreciate it as much as I did.
The plot has been well addressed here by other reviewers so I will be brief. A being from another galaxy visits our planet to fulfill his mission which is in essence, are we as a planet, as a people, worth saving. It is quite obvious we are headed toward self destruction due to our massive destruction of our environment and our unquenchable greed. Is there something here worth saving? Eons ago two planets collided due to most of the mistakes we are making her on planet earth. A large chunk of the two planets, an asteroid, is headed in our direction and its impact will cause man and all living creatures on earth to go the way of the dinosaurs. Pollen is a carrier of The Ring of Power and can indeed save our planet if allowed and if he, Pollen, decides we are worthy. The author, Francis t. Perry Williams has given us a "Green" SiFi thriller here that is appropriate for all ages. It is filled with action and I must say, filled with much to ponder. Questions are asked in this work that needs answers; the primary one being...are we indeed worthy of being saved as a species? The author is certainly a natural story teller. He has a message and is quite capable of articulating that message through the written word. As those who read my reviews will know, I am a syntax junkie, and I admit that I was well rewarded with this work. The author has the ability to take a rather complex plot and dish it out to us in a manner that would be quite appropriate around a campfire. If you don't feel this is all that difficult to accomplish, well try it some time! The story begins instantly on the first page and the reader is then sucked in, page after page. I must admit that once I started reading this one that I found if difficult to lay down. The characters in this work, a rather rag-tag group, are all quite believable. You grow to like the good guys and grow to really dislike the bad guys. The author displays a rather deep knowledge of the environment, man, animals, plants and critters in general. The overall theme of the book is "harmony" and I certainly feel the teller of this tale has accomplished this through his writing. I suppose those that are interested in our ecology and the pathetic condition we find ourselves in at this time will be more drawn to the work than those that are not, but this is one that should be read by everyone as it has a very strong message and an important message. Now I must admit that I identified quite strongly with one of the primary characters in this wonderful novel; Reb, a rather elderly gentleman with a rather elderly dog, with very strong feelings as to what we are doing to ourselves...well, I felt like the author must have followed me around a bit and taken notes. Also, as a side note, I found the first few pages of this work absolutely fascinating. It deals with a rather underhanded land grab between a rather greedy and corrupt government and some very greedy and corrupt business people. As it would happen, this very thing is happening in our state of Missouri as I write this review. This work hit rather close to home. For something quite different, actually delightfully different, you certainly cannot go wrong with this one. I do highly recommend this work. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

A fine parable to instill love for the environment in young adult (or adult!) readers,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
Whatever power is used for, people will want it. "Pollen and the Ring of Harmony" is the story of an ecological super hero called Pollen, who draws his power from a ring. From the far reaches of space, he comes to save the Earth from itself and to spread his message of conservation. When he visits with the President of the United States, it seems there are those in the shadows who would rather push their own power than save the planet. "Pollen and the Ring of Harmony" is a fine parable to instill love for the environment in young adult (or adult!) readers.

Blends meaningful issues for world future with fanciful storytelling,

This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
This book is unique in that it blends a cautionary environmental and human behavioral commentary with a fictional (but not impossible) visit from an alien who comes to warn our planet and save us from our own destructive ways. Throughout the course of the book, itt also develops its human characters and weaves their paths delightfully to interact with the plot and climax. Necessarily, there are some stereotypical villainous characters who care only about greed and power but the creativity the author shows concerning the possible solutions to our human and environmental dilemmas more than balance these predictable aspects that set up the antagonist versus protagonist struggle. This book is suitable for teens through adults and, while it tackles tough issues, it manages to keep the reader from being overwhelmed by adding the human and fictional aspects to show our possible way out of our world plight. I strongly recommend this book for both those who are deeply interested in environmental topics as well as those who care about our future and yet simply want to enjoy some good science fiction.

My Hubby's Thoughts...,
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
"Pollen and the Ring of Harmony," by Francis T. Perry Williams, is a young-adult eco themed sci-fi. Pollen is an alien on a mission to save the Earth from a comet that will destroy the planet in several days, but only if humans can change to live in harmony with nature. Pollen, over 200,000 earth years old, is one of the 12 Bearers of the Ring of Harmony, a living ring that unites its wearer with the forces of nature, however outwardly he looks human. This story is about his journey from the redwood forests of California to the White House with a collection of rag-tag people to help him as he helps beings in need.
This well-paced story is like the Green Lantern, but with a twist. He is not going to save the world. It is up to humans to prove we have the capability to live in harmony with ourselves and nature and in time before the comet strikes or Pollen leaves and the earth is destroyed. This is a tale with a definite moral and Francis Williams shows this again and again thru different viewpoints. This is not a religious book, but more of spiritual or mystical one backed by alien science. There is plenty of action and drama in this well-paced story. Although it told more than showed, I felt the integration of the themes was good and age appropriate, as was the fighting and villains. Most of the bad guys do are decent in heart, and can change. The good guys were willing to fight and die for good cause. This would make a good children's series.

We Can Change If We Want,
By
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
An intriguing look into mankind's future on our planet, Pollen and The Ring of Harmony will leave you pondering our destiny. The story recounts how it is up to man to change the fate of our our doomed planet, with the help of a strange being named Pollen. As Pollen races to save Earth, he encounters folks from all walks of life. Aided by an old codger named Reb, who has his own fate to come to terms with, Pollen takes the reader on a journey through America.
Corruption, greed and mankind's lackadaisical attitude toward our planet's resources thwart our odd heroes at every turn. As they make their way across the country, they are perceived as angels, champions, lunatics and traitors. As the characters come to terms with Pollen's message, they find in each other hope, love and compassion. This book shows man at his worst, but also his best. It should leave you with a feeling of hope and a will to change. If it doesn't, you might just be part of the problem.

This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
What a delightful refreshing book. It reminded me of the movie When the Earth Stood Still, but is much more fleshed out and the story is one that our children should read or have read to them. I think it makes a wonderful book to read to your kids at night. The slant is toward Environamentalism, but I fully agree with the author's intent to open the eyes of our youth to the ravages of greed, and excess in the name of progress.
Pollen is a visitor from a far galaxy. He arrives on our planet in time to save an old man who lives in a cabin in the wilderness. One of the last great expanses of nature on our world. He has come to save our planet from a meteor that is headed straight for us. Reb is the old man who has given up on progress and saving the environment. He lives with nature and his old hound dog Duke. Today he has already faced the loggers who have come to destroy the huge redwood trees. Now they have dynamited a dam and tried to destroy his home. At the point of giving up, he meets Pollen and gets a new injection of hope. Chloe, Rachel, Bob, Shawna, Sarah, are just some of the people whose lives are changed by Pollen. The world is filled with greed and traditors. Even the leaders of our world are not exempt. As you read the book, your eyes are opened to the many dangers of forgeting the force of Nature and the needs of the world to survive. I found it riviting and I really wish something like this could happen to open the eyes of the world. Very good reading.

1 World 1 Fate,
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
To see the true killer of humankind, you only have to look into a mirror. `Pollen and the Ring of Harmony' was a novel that stuck home for me. The planet earth is about to be destroyed not only by the huge asteroid heading towards us, but also from our own actions. Forests are being cut down, strong but free hearted horses being led to slaughter, animals being killed for sport, and people are killing people. Pollen was sent to earth to help open our eyes to our actions, and to save us. He doesn't ask for anything in return, and doesn't want anybody injured in his own personal quest. Everybody who comes in contact with Pollen leaves feeling happy, relieved, and in return passes on that good energy to someone else. "The stranger hadn't hesitated in the face of the impossible, and the result was magic. Charlie felt keenly inspired by his actions. Suddenly he wanted to help everybody."
Beautifully written and engaging that I couldn't put this book down! Each and every person has their own story and their own side of the story, yet each one is connected to the other in a much bigger tale. Francis T. Perry Williams, has such a refreshing writing style that you are able to fully imbed yourself into the story. I personally found myself cheering from my side of the book while reading what was happening on the inside. What has our world become, and is there any hope for mankind? To find out if we can be saved you must pick up a copy of `Pollen and the Ring of Harmony'. It is only when we, as human beings, can live in perfect harmony with nature around us that we will survive as a race.

A SciFi thriller which teaches us about our world!,
By
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
I was caught by this book from the beginning. It centers around finding harmony with your environment, but I also think it is the essential battle between good and evil. The book starts with a elderly gentleman trying to stop developers from flooding the valley where he lives. He also tries to stop some men from cutting down the very old trees on the ridge of the valley. The men cutting down the trees don't listen, and actually physically hurt Reb.
He feels completely helpless and then all of sudden Pollen shows up. He's an alien here to inform us that there is a meteor heading toward earth that he can stop with his ring if he chooses to, but first humans must learn to live in harmony with the earth and their environment. He stops the men from cutting down the trees, and actually makes the water go back up behind the damn out of the valley. This starts a wild adventure on their way to the White House so Pollen can talk to the President. In steps the Vice President who will stop at nothing to get the ring so he can turn America into a military state. This is a terrific SciFi thriller with a message. The author has a great way of weaving a story, but as he was telling the story he was teaching us that we need to learn to live in harmony with our world. I absolutely loved this book and have already passed it on to my friend to read. Definitely read this book you won't be sorry!

This Book Will Better Our World,
By Cassie Mae (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pollen and the Ring of Harmony (Paperback)
Pollen and the Ring of Harmony is an exceptional book that should be taught in the school system. Why? Because the book shows how we need to change our world for the better to survive. It all seems so simple yet what we are doing today is not working very well. This book gives perfect examples on what we are doing wrong and how to fix each situation.
This book is a fast and extremely interesting read in a Sci-Fi type of style. If this book was put in the school curriculum it may plant a seed in the minds of all future generations to literally help better our world. |
