not quite as good as live,
By Sean McDonald (amsterdam) - See all my reviews

This is one of those bands where the cd just does not do justice to the live performance, but of the three releases, this is certainly the best. The meat of the record (Tomato cup, fingers, etc) sounds like a stripped down Physical Graffiti era Zep with the lyrics belted out thruogh a bullhorn. Best enjoyed by those who want their blues with a heavy edge

Zen Guerrilla - 'Polstronic Raygun' (Alternative Tentacles),

Zen Guerilla's worthy sophomore effort. A mixture of '90's power-packed heavy rock, blues and MC5-inspired '70's proto-punk for you to thoroughly soak in. Very well done, I must say. Tracks that make this CD a keeper are "Saucerships To The Rescue", "Roachman" {good harmonica and piano}, their Stones cover "Empty Heart", "2000 Watts Over The South Side" and "Frequency Out". Was a bit caught off guard with their blues ballad "Healing In The Water". Seriously, I wonder if vocalist Marcus Durant is somehow related to the late Rob Tyner?

It's rough and tumble. Contemporary yet vintage. Metal but blues. It's real music in an era of illusions. Get this. Zen Guerrilla, collect them all!
