2.0 out of 5 stars A huge step down from the J. Goldsmith previous scores in this series, but effective in the film, November 19, 2011
This review is from: Poltergeist III: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This was one of the first soundtracks albums I purchased back in 1988 (the LP at that time) and I was much disapointed to find that this score was nothing like the firs two exceptional orchestral scores by Jerry Goldsmith. This one is a purely synth score from the same composer of the original "Child's Play" which does not use any of themes created by Goldsmith for the first movies.
I find it effective in the film, but on its own in CD it is more challenging and not to all tastes. In any case, I find it has its moments and it has grown a bit on me with time. I stil listen to it from time to time (and upgraded from the LP to the CD).
The CD itself is well arranged, representing well the underscore and the "source" music of the film (such as Chopin's 2nd corcerto for Piano in "Music Lessons" and the source music for the art gallery).
The mix/version of some of the tracks is a bit different to the film versions (this can be noted in "Skinny Dipper's Blues", "Rescue Me" and "Ending"). Most of the CD track "This Is My Cousin Donna" does not appear in the film.
