Product Description

The POLY-FILTER is for filtering and purifying both fresh and salt water aquariums. It is a formulation of a special patented material bonded to a synthetic matrix. By means of a unique proprietary process, the POLY-FILTER is made impervious to salt and is also organic loving to certain materials. It can absorb and adsorb contaminants and other toxic materials found in nature or added to fresh and salt water with or without fish and invertebrates. Medication added to fresh and salt water aquariums for treatment of diseased fish will automatically be removed by the POLY-FILTER after serving their intended purpose before the medication can produce a toxic effect on the fish. The POLY-FILTER is non-toxic and harmless to biological filtration because it allows a sufficient amount of ammonia to reach the biological filter in order to sustain the bacteria culture. The POLY-FILTER provides a supplemental means for removal of ammonia when the biological filter is unable to break down the excess ammonia and its concentration increases rapidly. Then the POLY-FILTER adsorbs the excess ammonia while the biological filter readjusts to higher ammonia input levels. Changes color when exhausted. 4" x 8".Poly-FilterOperating InstructionsFreshwater Application:Add Poly-Filter to any holder or apparatus at any time.Establishing Marine/Reef system:Add Poly-Filter so water can pass through it.For Maximum Filtration: Eliminate all water bypass.Poly-Filter in established marine freshwater systems: Conventional power filter: Place Poly-Filter on bottom plate. I had used many different products to try and solve our nitrate problem, but the polyfilter was the only one to work to lower the level. My tank had also had low, but nagging, ammonia and nitrite readings that lowered to 0 when I put in the polyfilter. I used the product in my Fluval 350 canister filter, slipped down on the outside of the large foam inserts. I took out my used up filter and the nitrate level elevated again. I am glad to find that Amazon has a three pack, since my local fish store only carries packs of single filters and can't keep them in stock. The only downside of this product is that it states that it can be recharged, but when I tried recharging per directions but it was no longer effective in removing the nitrates, etc.

So far, this is the only product that actually got rid of my algea problem and I have literally tried them all much to my regret.

A slightly off-white pad comes in rather nondescript package. It wasn't a day or two after cutting and placing it in my power filters media container that it became a rusty brown. I don't know for sure what it was absorbing but it certainly was absorbing something. The complaint I have is that despite claiming that it is easily reactivated by salt water I didn't have much success at removing the discoloration. I don't know if that's very important but all the same I couldn't get much out even in the saltiest of warm water. I even let it soak for hours and it didn't seem to affect it.

Otherwise it definitely seems to work.

This is a must to clear the water of any medications used recentally or at least once a year to make sure to pickup anything the skimmer can't or whatever else you use. There is no substitute for this product anywhere. Truly a perfect filter that never takes out minerals or any needs life just phosphates and protiens, amonia etc. that you want to remove. IT lasts a while with color changing properties to aid in evaluating when it is full. Never leaches back into the water ever!

this product does what it says, but in my aquarium it died(got used up) quickly. i do not know why. to be fair, i use up purigen relatively fast also. maybe my aquarium is just dirty, or my filter doesn't hold enough media for 200gph.

I love this product! I overstocked my 50g cichlid tank and as a result had a constant problem of Ammonia spikes and very high Nitrate levels. I do up to 50% water changes weekly but the problem would quickly return within a few days. I heard about Poly-Filter on YouTube and thought I would give it a try. After the first 24hrs of putting the entire 4X8 pad in my wet/dry sump, the Ammonia went from 10ppm to 0. My Nitrate was also reduced by about 50%. I did another 50% water change which reduced the Nitrate to about 5ppm. After a month, I have no more ammonia spikes and my nitrate have been holding steady at about 5-10ppm. If you overstock, which a lot of cichlid owners do, you have to try this product!

I love this product. It seems to do what it says it does and it has never given me a reason to doubt it. With current research indicating Activated Carbon might cause HLLE this is your best option as far as I am concerned. They are also one of the few companies that has done real research on their product to prove their claims!

I have been using this product for many years now, they are overpriced by the manufacturer but worth the cost considering the alternatives that flood the market every year. You can either waste your money on other brands of plain poly or you can spend more on these and know that your fish are well protected.
