5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate 'cool' factor for PC-based VoIP
Since Polycom came out with C100S for Skype over a year ago, the "Polycom Communicator" has been a viral-marketing sucess story. (I saw someone with one and decided to buy one for myself.)

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked Great, Then Went Down Hill
It was awesome, like everyone else on here says. Then just like all those bluetooth headsets from jabra and the like, it became unusable. So much so that the quality I get from the internal mic on the laptop is better than this speakerphone. Dear phone accessory companies, why do your mics go bad?.....Still waiting for an answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate 'cool' factor for PC-based VoIP, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Polycom CX100 Speakerphone (Personal Computers)
Since Polycom came out with C100S for Skype over a year ago, the "Polycom Communicator" has been a viral-marketing sucess story. (I saw someone with one and decided to buy one for myself.)

The newer CX-100 is designed to be used with Microsoft's Office Communicator 2007 (MOC) client. This is the best $115 bucks you can spend on a PC VoIP accessory. The sound quality rivals Polycom's high-end, star-shaped conference room phones but with the convenience of a truly portable device. I travel frequently and utilize my CX-100 with MOC and other VoIP soft-clients when I'm in the hotel, airport lounges, Starbucks stores, etc. I prefer using the CX100 instead of a bluetooth headset because it offers better 'mobility' around my hotel room than a bluetooth headset - I can shave, get dressed, pack my bag, all while listening to an early morning conference call - without worrying if I'm going to knock an earbud out and into the sink (or worse, the toilet.) When I need privacy, I plug my iPod earbuds into the headphone jack on the side of the CX100. The noise cancelling on the CX100 is outstanding. While a lot of laptops are supporting higher quality microphones and speakers, they have some serious drawbacks - namely picking up typing sounds off of the keyboard - not very 'con-call friendly'.

The CX100 also has the advantage of allowing you to answer an incoming call directly on the CX100 without having to rearrange you PC desktop to find the MOC window to click answer. There are mute and volume control buttons on the CX100 too.

The convenience of the CX100 makes sense in the office too. I make about 50% of my voice calls using the CX100 instead of my convential desk phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Speakerphone, December 14, 2010

I was in a meeting with a vendor who was using the Polycom CX100. It was in the center of an eight foot table with folks two-deep around it. The unit provided very clear sound of the "far-end" and, according to the far-end, everyone in the room was audible. For the money, this unit is incredible. I am amazed at the quality of the audio and it's integration with OCS.

I've been worried about the increasing number of hours I've been spending on work communicator calls and the effect on my hearing from wearing a headset for so many hours.

This is the solution. A perfect, small form factor, duplex speaker phone! Simple and works perfectly.

We use this for company conference calls using Microsoft Live Meeting. This product works FLAWLESSLY!!
It is designed to specifically work with Microsoft Communicator so it works with Live Meeting as well.
I have been told that the sound quality on the other end is BETTER than with a headset. The microphone picks up all people in a large conference room without raised voices. The sound quality from the speaker is excellent and is better than a traditional telephone.

This is the quality expected from Polycom

5.0 out of 5 stars What speakerphone?, June 22, 2011
This review is from: Polycom CX100 Speakerphone (Personal Computers)
How rare is it to find a speakerphone where the other party can't tell that you're on a speakerphone? This is a great gadget for VoIP users. Beats the pants off of any wired or wireless headset, and clearly picks up a whole room. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Speaker Phone for Adobe Connect, May 4, 2011

I have been using the Polycom CX100 to replace the mandatory headset when you use Adobe Connect's VOIP. Finally a solution to use Adobe Connect with a group. I have it running on XP and Win 7, both are a snap to set up. Just plug in the USB and wait for the drivers to automatically load. You might have to go in to your sound card settings and choose the CX100 (listed as "Speakerphone" in Win 7) as the Primary source for listening and mic, but overall it's a very easy set up. This is the perfect solution for the user who refuses to wear a headset in meetings but then loves to complain that every time they talk they get feedback.

The echo canceling works great! I just wish it was slightly louder, that is my only complaint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Live meeting and communicator, March 1, 2011

I purchased this Polycom CX100 USB speakerphone so that I could hold a conference call from my laptop using live meeting or Microsoft communicator as quite often I end up in a small conference room or in my office with 3 or 4 people and no way to easily include them in the call. Using speakers and a microphone never works well with feedback and echoes so I thought I would give this a try.

The day after it arrived I was on a plane to visit a remote site and sitting on a conference call using a land line and and regular speaker phone the connection was terrible we tried a number of times to improve the call but in the end I hooked up the CX100 to my laptop and connected to my college via communicator and the quality was excellent, even in a large conference room we could here him perfectly and he said the sound was great and no echo.

Just today in a training session the trainer was having problems with the set up so I hooked him up with the CX100 and with three people remote and 15 in the room again the sound was excellent on both ends.

On windows 7 just plug in the device and it is recognized and becomes the default for communicator and live meeting. There are 2 buttons on the from of the device with icons that indicate call and hang up but do nothing so I rate it a 4 on features. Otherwise this is a perfect device and I'm sure it would work just as well with skype or any other voip through a computer. Definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Sound, December 13, 2010
By

This review is from: Polycom CX100 Speakerphone (Personal Computers)
Pros: Superior sound and clarity vs. laptop mic & speakers
Cons: Not all button functions work with Windows 7, but this isn't a deal breaker

If you rely on Skype or other internet programs to communicate, and you need a speakerphone vs. headset, then the CX100 is a MUST. I rely on Skype for my business communications, and my laptop Mic & Speakers were just not cutting it. This speakerphone maintains Polycom's brand reputation for solid equipment, and the resulting sound quality is just excellent.

The unit has a solid feel, and the USB cord is built in and self contained within the back of the unit--in other words, you won't have to worry about losing the USB cord during a road trip. The CX100 came with a vinyl carry case, and it is compact enough to slip into my briefcase for road trips.

I was hesitant at first about springing $100 for a speakerphone solely to be used my laptop, but it has proven to be worth the investment as my group teleconferences with clients and remote sales people are crystal clear. Note that I run Windows 7, and not all the built-in buttons work (like cancelling the call); that said, it is not a deal breaker since I control all functions via the laptop anyway. Volume control still works on the CX100 so I'm happy.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone in need of a portable, high quality speakerphone for use with Skype or Google Chat.
