4.0 out of 5 stars Nice phone but not 100% compatible with Skype, November 18, 2011

This review is from: Polycom CX300 Desktop Phone Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 (Personal Computers)
I use this phone everyday with Skype. I realize it's designed to work with MS Lync/Communicator, but I don't think the typical target user has such high-end software. It's plug-n-play and was very easy to setup (I literally just had to plug it in, that was it).

The speakerphone is pretty good. People on the other end do complain of a bad echo when they talk if I have the speakerphone volume up more than halfway. If I turn it down then it seems to go away, but at this price point (and also being a Polycom product) I would not expect this to be happening.

My only semi-major gripe is the number-pad doesn't work with Skype. I still have to use the on-screen number pad (which will pickup the number pad from your keyboard) but it would be nice to be able to just use the numbers on the phone. I've researched the settings and can't find a work-around for this. I can't imagine it would be very hard for Polycom to just offer some kind of plug-in/firmware update to resolve this, but whatever. Probably some kind of license/agreement issue since it is certified for MS.

The handset is comfortable, and I do really like the opening in it that doesn't obstruct the speaker. The base is weighted with rubber feet so it stays put most of the time.

All in all it's a nice land-line substitute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low cost phone( with premium performance), March 23, 2010
This review is from: Polycom CX300 Desktop Phone Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 (Personal Computers)
I got the phone couples days ago. It works excellent with office communicator 2007 R2.

Especially the performance in handsfree mode, it is best one I can find in the market with this price segment.

If you need to work at home or want to call via SKYPE, you can buy it and will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent UC phone, January 20, 2012

This review is from: Polycom CX300 Desktop Phone Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 (Personal Computers)
Just received the CX300 and am really glad I went this route. Setup was a breeze - Win 7 recognized it right away and it automatically was set as my default Audio option in Lync. Oh yeah - that's the best, this OCS 2007 phone is forward compatible with Lync 2010 - no firmware updates required, just works out of the box.

Sound quality has been great - on both ends. This is a great phone for anyone that works at home in a fully integrated UC environment. And the $100 price tag on Amazon is definitely fair.
