4.0 out of 5 stars Ozzy ozzy ozzy Oi Oi Oi
I am so pleased that Australia has finally produced an awesome dance music duo. I love the music but I also feel that it isn't too original. If anyone remembers the group Dee Lite? Madison Avenue kind of conjures up memories of them from the late 80's. Over all..... I think Madison Avenue are doing a great job and I am enjoying their CD immensely

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough songs?!
The album does have its moments and you can't deny that. However, there are just not enough of these moments - with a total 7 tracks out of the 13 track, which all 7 are superb. However, you have an intro and 3 interludes, which kind of makes the album hollow, since it is simply based on 7 tracks. The remixs are credible. With an album that had a debut single of "Don't Call Me Baby" and a second single "Who The Hell Are You?" - this album is unfortunately overpriced and even at times disappointing. If the album had another 3 or 4 long tracks the album may have been seen in a new light. OVERALL VIEW - not enough songs, but the ones that are there are gems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, yet still good, February 2, 2001
This review is from: Polyester Embassy (Audio CD)
I was so excited that Madison Avenue was coming out with an album, I bought it the day it was released. Unfortunately, the disc lacks the intensity that would have made it great. I was really impressed with "Don't Call Me Baby" and "Who the Hell are You" - I listened to them constantly (ask the guy across the hall) on MP3 before the album came out. I thought, if this eminently dancable disco-house combo could be replicated on 10 more songs on a single album, then it would be my Album of the Year.

Let's just say I was disappointed. The interludes are especially annoying. It's as if they said, look, we can't put out a 45-minute, 9-track (two of which are remixes) album, so they just scrounged up "This is Your Introduction", "Edible French Chic", "She" and "It's Very Alright" to bump it up to the respectable length of 13 tracks and 53 minutes. If it were only "This is Your Introduction", I would understand. But all four of these, combined with the presence of only 7 songs, make the album quite a disappointment.

I give it 3 stars only out of my love for "Don't Call..." and "Who the Hell...".

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wonders from Down Under, November 12, 2000

Those who waited a long time to get a copy of Madison Avenue's "Polyester Embassy's" album will know it was worth the wait once they pop it into their players. Using a fusion of techno, great vocals, and fierce beats, "The Polyester Embassy" is one of the best albums of 2000.

While Madonna's "Music" is a great album, Madison Avenue's album will probably fulfill the need for dance tracks that were not all that available on Madonna's album. The Australian duo, whom already have scored an international hit with their song "Don't call Me Baby" (two versions are found on this album) have made important inroads into the dance music industry due to their inventive grooves and their unique style of fashion.

Other great and explosive tracks on this album include "Who The Hell Are You," and "Do You Like What You See?". Both tracks spotlight lead singer's Cheyne Coates' girlish vocals. "Edible French Chic" which is a short interlude that features a man and woman speaking in French over the phone seems a bit out of place on this album to me, but everyone has their own opinion on what works and what doesn't. "Everything You Need" is also one of the album's best tracks when it comes to groove and style. The only thing that I was disappointed about was the absence of Dave Morales' fierce and amazing remix of "Don't Call Me Baby" (the "Madison Babes From Outta Space Remix"). It only can be found on the single and on a few dance collections, but in my opinion it deserved to be added on this release.

Overall, Madison Avenue have made an impressive debut in the dance music world, especially in a time where there is major need for artists that can create spectacular music without the need for rap artists contributing their not so required presence in the form of a remix (Can we Say Mariah Carey???). Madison Avenue might be one of New York's most fashionable streets, and in the same manner, Madison Avenue's "Polyester Album" is one of 2000's most stylish, creative, and memorable albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was disapointed..., November 18, 2000

I have to say, I was one of the many people who upon hearing the awesome single "dont call me baby", anticipated future releases from this duo. I finally heard the album was coming out, and rushed to the store to pick up a copy. I loved the creative artwork and the overall theme of the album. I think its wonderful that Madison Avenue wrote every song on this album too. But what isnt wonderful is that out of the 13 tracks, there is actually only 7 songs. 2 of the 13 are remixes of tracks, whose originals also appeared on the album. The remaining 4 tracks are interludes. Of the 7 songs, Cheyne (she's the girl) only sings on 5. "Fly" and "78" both feature different vocalists, and its stated in the credits for the album. The album is composed of mostly of sampled disco loops, which can get annoying on some songs. Dont get me wrong, I think the 7 actual tracks on this album are great... but I would've like to have had more for the price I paid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Empty product., November 23, 2000

For those of you who don't know, Madison Avenue in New York City is the heart of the advertising and marketing world, which makes this group's name entirely appropriate - all label, no content. This is clearly just another prefab "ghost group" manufactured out of session performers by European producers/scientists (like Black Box and Culture Beat before it) that will never be heard of again after it rakes in enough dough for its creators. There is certainly no artistry, soul or personality going on here... just 7 hollow rip-offs of Crystal Waters tunes and a bunch of filler interludes and remixes. If you're wanting the one genuinely infectious cut, "Don't Call Me Baby", buy the single or "Platinum Hits 2000".

I'll make this short and sweet. "Don't Call Me Baby" and "Who the Hell are You" are some of the catchiest, most fun techno dance tunes. Unfortunately the rest of the album isn't worth anything. The 3 stars are entirely for those two songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Dance Album To Dance To!, November 25, 2000
This review is from: Polyester Embassy (Audio CD)
I bought this CD as soon as it came out, and I am very happy with it. Each song has a good beat to it, packed with girlish vocals. The only bad thing about this CD is that there are too many interludes, and not enouth songs. Some of these interludes are kind of pathetic, but I like the Eible French Chick one.Overall, this CD is pretty good, so buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Appealing Dance Music, January 19, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Polyester Embassy (Audio CD)
I really like this album, it's full of very groovy music. The vocals are pleasant to listen to and the music is extremely danceable. This is good music for home listening, bumping in the car or a party. I give this album four stars because it should have been at least ten tracks long. I would love to hear what there second cd will be like. I also recommend music from: Crystal Waters, Kristine W., Madonna, Judy Torres, Nayobe, Joi Cardwell, Culture Beat, Two Unlimited, Technotronic, TKA, KLF, Acen, Aubrey, & Bizarre Inc.
