This is a must have book for anyone interested in working with polymer clay as a serious art and fine craft medium. Well written and beautifully designed. Even if you are a seasoned pro with polymer clay there is something to be gained by owning this book. This truly is one of the best polymer clay books I have seen published in a long time.

An absolute must-have book,

I've just received my copy of "Polymer Clay Inspirations" and I can hardly wait to read it cover to cover and do the exercises. Not only is color theory (and different basic color systems)explained beautifully, but the photographs/examples inspire creativity on their own. I am very selective about what craft books I purchase, usually borrowing from the public library first to determine whether the book is a necessary reference item for my shelf. This time, I preordered and I am SO glad. This is a reference book I'll pick up time and time again - and one I'll leaf through when inspiration flags. I work in polymer clay and also do bead work and mixed media and this book will be a fabulous help in all mediums where color is concerned. Congratulations to Lindly Haunani and Maggie Maggio for having written a book I'd give 12 stars out of 10 to!

HEADS ABOVE THE REST,
By Elise (NJ) - See all my reviews

If I had been asked to nominate a title for Lindly and Maggie's new addition to the polymer library, I might have been tempted to call it "Everything You Wanted to Know About Color.....But Were Afraid to Ask." That, however, would have been both derivative and long-winded, two qualities that one never has to fear in this indispensable book of 144 information-packed pages.
Heads above the typical polymer how-to books, this volume offers instruction and inspiration that focuses on polymer clay as a learning tool that readers can use to explore their own color instincts and preferences and develop their own palettes.

This is NOT a step-by-step!! Thank goodness!,

I don't normally feel obligated to pile on when a book has so many five-star reviews, but I do this time. +1 to everything everyone else loves about this book.
And: Thank GOODNESS it's not a "project" book! This is an art form! Can I have a few more exclamation points? This medium is riddled, if not ruined, with step-by-step books that tell you exactly how to make work exactly like the work in the picture and leave you with no actual new skills or understanding. That's not art (IMO). Wait wait, there's more: Thank GOODNESS it's a "technical" book. It's a "technical" medium! It's chemistry (oops, was I not supposed to let anyone know that there's more chemistry to the "poly" than there is "clay" to the second part of the name?). The stuff changes when it bakes. There's a reason you're not supposed to let raw clay contact food prep surfaces... Other artists get books about the technical elements of their media. Why not polyclay? I saw this book at the store and let it sit. One more over-promised polyclay book, flashy pictures on the front, boring step-by-steps inside. Then it appeared in the library and I checked it out, and now I'm back to buy my own copy. And I'm not even a polyclay artist! I like the way the color information is presented and am working my way through the exercises in textiles--the information about color is THAT good and THAT accessible, compared to virtually every other color theory book available. Finally, it has been a while since I've looked at polyclay books, largely because so much of the content IS S-B-S, and it's good to see work of artists I haven't seen in every other compendium.

Wish I had this 2 years ago!,
This review is from: Polymer Clay Color Inspirations: Techniques and Jewelry Projects for Creating Successful Palettes (Paperback)
When I first started working with Polymer clay I was surprised by how blue + yellow sometimes made "yuck" instead of green. I didn't understand color bias in pigments, pigment purity or the language of color. This book explains so much that other color theory works somehow miss! We polymer clay artists needed this book and I highly recommend it to anyone trying to figure how color mixing works in clay. Use it to learn how your chosen brand of clay behaves. It'll save the new user from hours of frustration and provide the experienced user with tons of inspiration.

BRAVO, just what polymer clay lovers needed. Not one more book.,

I received this book as a gift. It was the best christmas gift I got. I've been working and playing with polymer clay since 1995 and have many books on it. This one is on the top 5 ever written. Like many clayers I needed color theory and finally here it is. There are many project books and we didn't need another one. Even if you are a starter you will need this book sooner or later. Why work with just basic package colors when there is a whole world of color possibilities out there waiting for you to be discovered? Already read it completely and started with the exercises. Thanks Maggie and Lindly for making me fall in love again with polymer clay. I would have given the book 10 stars out of 5. Don't wait any longer and get your copy.

Technical Study of Color in Polymer Clay,

This is a gorgeous book that is like a college course in color blending. If you're looking for something quick, easy with simple projects, this isn't the book. But if you want to expand from the typical two color swirl or checkerboard blocks of simple polymer clay medium, this is a fascinating, in-depth study of mixing solid colors into creations that will be totally unique. I kept back a star only because it's more technical than the average amateur beader's interest. This is definitely for the artisan that wants to further expand their art.

It's a good book - however, I thought it would have more color mix "recipes" - If you are just starting in polymer clay and looking for recipes to unique colors this is not the book.
