While I am not currently interested in producing food designs with polymer clay, I am interested in learning more about working with polymer clay in general. I am a complete beginner. I found the background information about working with this substance, and the authors' advice about all aspects of the hobby, to be clear, straightforward, and extremely helpful. The recipe for making a hand-cleaning substance is easy, and sounds great. Kudos to the authors for the novice-friendly front section of the book. Although I haven't created any of the food pieces they include, these items are very realistic looking, but with a wonderful bit of whimsy.

I was excited when I first read about this book. I couldn't wait to get a copy. Finally it came out and I waited until my local bookstore had a copy for me to look at before buying. I ended up putting it back. I'm a beginner at polymer clay and still wasn't impressed.
It's really directions you could figure out on your own, just by looking at the picture. The treats are overly simple--what you see is what it is--a flattened squish of clay on top of a rolled up ball. There's no special textures or techniques you couldn't find with a search on yahoo if you needed to - a ball tool for dimples, a spatula side for lines. There is nothing more detailed than sesame seeds. (I specifically was looking for things like the look of piped icing on cupcakes, or the messy smeared icing and crumb texture of a cake slice - you won't find it here.) Also, the treats on the cover are pretty much all that are in the book - maybe 15 projects. I was surprised by the book's small size when I found it on the shelf. Maybe buy it for your 7 year old who wants to start making some gifts for her friends.

It was ok, but the problem was that it didn't have as many projects that i hoped it had! I would recommend it for beginners only! :)

I have never worked with polymer clay before, but wanted to try it out. After receiving the book, I headed straight for the craft store and bought nearly all of the colors of clay that are used in the book, some head pins, sterling earring findings, and a few other supplies. I did not even spend fifty dollars, and I am all set! The projects in the book are accompanied by great photos and explicit instructions. Within a few hours, I completed lollipop earrings, a waffle pendant and a cupcake pendant. All of which look super cute! My daughter will be really excited to show her new jewelry to her friends! Considering the start-up costs of a lot of crafts, this one is relatively low and easy too. Highly recommended.

I must say, the instructions are simple and straight forward. The illustrations are/were very helpful. Of all my polymer CLAY instruction books, this one is the best for simple food items. But it also peeked my interest in jewelry making (which is the purpose of the book). I Purchased it for the CLAY. I highly recommend this book.

I bought several polymer clay books online and I have to say that this is my favorite. I am a beginner and what i like most about this book is that everything is written in a step-by-step format with pictures, and that they start out each project with a reasonable amount of clay so you're not wasting a fortune. Other books that I bought online for polymer clay miniatures, start out with giant amounts of clay which is ridiculously expensive to make.
This book is fun, well written, and teaches you how to wear your creations....what's cuter than ice cream cone earrings???

A excellent introduction book for artists looking at polymer mini foods. Easy to read and apply. Overall a fun book that opens the door for interpreting a person's favorite food to a charm form.
I've been working in poly-food for a couple years and still got new information from the book. |
