Does its Job!,
This review is from: Pom Pom: Essential Cibo Matto (Audio CD)
Cibo Matto is an interesting, genre-defiant band active from 1994-2001, comprised of Japanese duo Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda both in charge of vocals and instrumentation. "Know Your Chicken" and "Sugar Water" were both made popular through music videos on MTV...yeah, this was way back when MTV actually showed decent bands! This is how I heard them, initially, though other listeners may have found out about Cibo Matto through the myriad of other avenues that connect to them; Sean Lennon's musical involvement with their album Stereotype A or their side-project band Butter 08 on the Grand Royal label, for instance. This collection gathers up all the best tracks from Cibo Matto's studio albums Viva! La Woman and 'Stereotype A' and includes "Spoon" from the Super Relax EP, a remix by Dan the Automator of "King of Silence","Vamos Ala Playa" from the "Working For Vacation" single, "Backseat" from the Japanese version of Stereotype A, and the previously unreleased song "Swords and a Paintbrush".
Though I have my favorites, I often end up playing this CD all the way through without skiping about. While their material does have a very Japanese feel, it also contains elements of indie rock, electronic music, and a potpourri of just about everything else. One could just as well buy 'Viva! La Woman' and 'Stereotype A' and probably be content, but if you are a casual fan looking to collect the truly essential tracks (save a few bucks AND have them presented in a smooth-flowing track-listing) or a more avid fan looking to acquire the additional tracks, go ahead and buy this CD!

Great Album,
This review is from: Pom Pom: Essential Cibo Matto (Audio CD)
I really enjoy this CD. I bought it for songs I already liked, such as "Sugar Water" and "Sci-Fi Wasabi". It also has great songs that I hadn't heard before, like "Le Pain Perdu", "Working for Vacation", and "Spoon". Highly recommended for any Cibo Matto fan.

I wish I had only found Cibo Matto ten years ago.
Saw them live at a Japan Relief concert in NYC...absolutely fell in love. This CD is awesome because it displays the variety of styles from the band. Love it.

This is a great collection of this unique band's best hits. If you like alternative or indie with a bit of a twist, you'll love this band. The voices are addictive, and their style is unlike anything else.

Pom Pom is an excellent collection of eclectic, fun and funky tunes from trip hop to urban ballads to underground; all with a little Japanese quirk. I enjoy just listening to it or pulling it out for some unique party song variety. Group was featured as a musical guest on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in Season one.
