5.0 out of 5 stars Pomi Great--Shipping Packaging Poorly Done April 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
The Pomi tomatoes are a fine product, and worth the extra expense. Their taste and texture are far superior to those of canned tomatoes, and frankly, most fresh tomatoes most of the year.

My complaint is that the Pomi cartons were sloppily and loosely packed, and thus vulnerable to damage during shipping. They were packed more as common household goods rather than food. If the shipping box had been more banged up than it was, one or more of the Pomi cartons could have been ruptured. This is an easy problem to fix; I hope Amazon takes note of it, and takes steps to prevent its happening again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Pomi! January 14, 2011

Love this product! =) I use it in place of canned tomatoes since it's BPA free & have never had a complaint. I only wish that Amazon did prime shipping on the chopped tomatoes as well!

1.0 out of 5 stars Use-by date unreasonable March 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fine product, so I read. Given that, I ordered multiple boxes of Pomi. Problem: use-by date just a few weeks from delivery of product. For me, buying from grocery store, though more expensive, is safer. I like Amazon, or want to, but I've received many 'bulk' products with impossibly soon 'Use By' dates.
Yes, Amazon, you do refund money. No, Amazon, you do not address specific issues, eg: Please check with your supplier re: my complaint. [Also applies to multiple boxes of Swanson Chicken Broth, which were so poorly packed the product leaked through the shipping box.] Shucks, reckon I'll give Amazon one more try, but that's it.]

5.0 out of 5 stars more like fresh than canned January 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fresh, bright flavor can't be beat.

These are treated with an ultra high heat process that preserves them without essentially cooking them for 45 minutes as is done in a regular can. This is a dramatic improvement in the quality
vs. canned.

Contains very low levels of sodium and you will not miss it.

They also take a lot less storage space than a #10 round can.

Competitive price vs. Target. Too bad the chopped Pomi packages aren't.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best: BPA free, pesticide free, no GMO October 4, 2011
The quality cannot be beat--the ingredients are 100% tomatoes. No sugar, salt or citric acid and BPA free packaging (for those in doubt, read up, check the Pomi website, etc). They come from Italy, which requires some air miles but they are grown pesticide free, GMO free and the packaging consists of 75% renewable resources. Sure, USDA organic cert would be nice, but personally I'll take EU standards over that. These tomatoes taste fresh and delicious and are so easy to store.

5.0 out of 5 stars great tomatoes, need to freeze some February 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought these tomatoes after I read an article about canned tomatoes that said they were bad for you; the acidity leaches stuff out of the tin. These are great tomatoes; not quite as choppy, more pureey than I am used to, but that's OK. At 26+ oz, I find I need to freeze about 1/2 of the container for most recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Product January 3, 2012
This is my preferred tomato sauce. It is full-flavored, not tart, and actually tastes like fresh Roma tomatoes. It's what my Italian sister-in-law uses. So, what more can one say?

Tip: use a scissors to cut the top flap off and pull the cartoon open. If you snip the corners and pour from the little spout you'll make a bit of a mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product and BPA-FREE! January 2, 2012
By kalyson
I had been using Muir Glen Organic whole/diced tomatoes, but after having had cancer I read a lot of research publications indicating that BPA's estrogen mimicking effects can be quite dangerous. BPA found in cans with acidic foods are some of the worst since the chemical is leached out even more. The same is true of plastic containers with BPA -- acid, heat or surface abrasion lead to much greater leaching into the food.

Although Muir Glen is promising to get rid of BPA in their can liners, they are replacing it with some unspecified 'vinyl-based substitute'. If you want to get their cans without BPA, look for a use-by date of around the summer of 2013. [This info is per a conversation with their customer service representative.]

I had heard about Pomi Tetra-pak products before -- Mario Batali and other foodies/chefs have recommended them so I thought I would give them a try.

The tomatoes are naturally grown in Italy without pesticides and have no salt added. I used them to create a wonderful marinara sauce. They taste great and I am very happy with the quality.
