New to Calogero..., April 3, 2007

...but not anymore. I picked up Pomme C recently while traveling in France, having never previously heard his music or known how popular he is. Now I understand why. This is a stellar CD. Based on a quick sampling of his prior recordings, Pomme C is more hard-driving than his other work, yet the melodies still shine through. Calogero's voice here is reminiscent of Freddy Mercury and Bono at times...maybe because the CD has a 'stadium rock' feel about it, along the lines of Coldplay, as well as Queen and U2, with the most positive connotations those names suggest. The title track and "Suiss Je Assez Clair" are immediate standouts.

Album is great. Some tracks rather derivative but still pleasing. Worth checking out Calogeros website too.
