If you like coarse, stone-ground mustard (the kind where you can see and taste and crunch the seeds) Pommery is really the best, bar none. This is the real thing, dating back to the Middle Ages. It isn't spicy or sweetened, or flavored with anything besides real mustard seed and wine vinegar. Try it on a hot grilled bratwurst!

ohhhh... this stuff is WONDEFUL!!! Nothing else is quite like it. The exquisite flavor not only adds to any mouthful of food but also wakes up the flavors of everything else you're eating. Best mustard to go with prime beef. Best mustard for sandwiches with lean meats, lettuce and fresh sprouts. Best mustard with crackers and gourmet cheese (or, hey, just with crackers!). A little goes a long way, and you feel coddled whenever you have some.

We used to live near a gourmet food store where we could buy this whenever we ran out. We got spoiled, and now it's VERY hard to find. Our last jar, which a friend brought home from France for us, ran out a good while ago. Hurrah for Amazon!

i used to be able to occasionally get this mustard at my local grocer (in the small size), but, then no more. i now buy it on-line. it is fabulous in my heat-friendly, sort of german-style potato salad (skin-on red potatoes, green olives, green onions, vinaigrette, no mayo, no eggs) and it's terrific slathered over a pork tenderloin prior to baking/grilling. i think the larger grain gives it visual appeal and it tastes wonderful...after all it's been around for centuries!

Most of us are used to the readily available Grey Poupon Mustard - the grainy kind. Once you've had this one however you will never go back - it has a very good balance on the amount of vinegar somehtign which other grainy mustards never achieve. I originally had this mustard in Europe. Until it became available on Amazon I would bug my European friends to lug a heavy jar with them on every visit.
