Elsie Allen made a pledge to her mother that she would carry on the Pomo tradition of basketmaking. She did not get the chance to make good on this promise until she was 62 years of age. Since that time she has become a renowned basketweaver and teacher at the Mendocino Art Center.

I was thrilled to receive this book I ordered.Not only beautiful pictures,but a wonderful first person account of growing up in the Hopland-Cloverdale Ukiah area as a Pomo Woman at the turn of the 20th century.The wonderful account of Elsie Allen's early life brings a rush of the sights and sounds and smells of this area. The hard work she put into the preservation of this most exquisite art form and her generosity at sharing it with all who are interested,is truly wonderful. A book to be used and cherished.
