This review is from: Pompeii's Living Statues: Ancient Roman Lives Stolen from Death (Hardcover)
This is an extremely well written and well researched book.
Professor Dwyer has done a superb job of examining the Fiorelli era at Pompeii (1860-1875). He provides a fascinating account of the social, political and historical impact of Dr Fiorelli's work on the vesuvian sites, as well as the events leading up to and immediately following his time at Pompeii. The book correlates numerous direct observations and accounts of the early archeological work and presents them in a highly readable format. |
