5.0 out of 5 stars Dry nose--No more, April 6, 2010
By
Bold Gray Mare (Lake Superior, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ponaris Nasal Emollient - 1 oz Bottle with Dropper
Ponaris Nasal Emollient is the cure! It is a clear, light liquid containing oils of pine, eucalyptus, peppermint, cajeput, cottonseed oil and iodine. It sounds pungent (and I expected it to sting) but it is really quite mild and very soothing. I apply it with a Q-Tip for instant nasal comfort.

I also tried Grossan's Breath-ease Nasal Gel but saw it contained methylparaben and propylparaben, preservatives that have been linked to cancer. Parabens generally make up less than 1 percent of total product formulations, so are considered safe by many manufacturers and ingredient-specialists. However, a study conducted at England's University of Reading found that parabens can enter the body through the skin. The study, published in the January 2004 Journal of Applied Toxicology found that 18 of 20 breast tumors contained significant concentrations of parabens!

As a cancer survivor, I no longer buy products containing parabens. Ponaris contains no parabens--Nor mineral oil or petroleum either. The oils in Ponaris are assimilable (whereas petroleum products are not--and in rare cases can cause respiratory (lung) illness due to inhaling traces of Vaseline put in the nose).

I highly recommend Ponaris.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for those that suffer from winter nasal dryness (Fair warning: strong earthy/pine scent, though), January 14, 2008

First, you can see all reviews of this same product here (at $10.99/30ml it's cheaper, too): Ponaris Nasal Emollient - 30 Ml

[30 ml = 1.0147 Oz]

Have to agree with all the other posters that this is an excellent product. I bought it for myself when I had a cold along with a dry, scratchy throat. I particularly liked the throat soothing properties. You put a drop or two in your nose with your head tilted back and allow it to run to the back of your throat. At first, the strong pine scent was surprising and the feeling of cool oil running from the back of my nose to my throat was a little off-putting, but the instant relief I felt was worth the oozing, slightly gross quality of the oil. I'd compare it to the new nasal spray FluMist--kinda gross, but necessary. Actually FluMist irritated my throat a bit, if I recall--this does not, the oil is very soothing, even if the scent is a little strong. If you are prone to a gagging reflex, the sensation of the oil dripping down might bother you.

Bottle Label Says: For relief of nasal congestion due to colds, nasal irritations, Atrophic Rhinitis (dry, inflamed nasal passages), nasal mucosal encrustations and allergy manifestations (Rose and Hay Fever).

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Oils of Pine, Eucalyptus, Peppermind, Cajeput, and Cottonseed as specially prepared iodized organic oils. Total Iodine 0.5%-0.7%. Assimilable hence non-lipoid potential. Exclusive J-R Iodization process since 1931. One fluid ounce.

DIRECTIONS: Half dropperful each nostril (fill to the line on dropper) as needed or as directed by a physician.

SCENT: it does have a rather strong, earthy pine scent to it which can be soothing to some. As I take another sniff to write this review, my impression is that it smells like a cross between pine and Pledge. It has a certain spicyness to the scent that I'm not wild about, but the scent definitely has the mark of pine and hints of lemon (not that they actually use lemon). Again, all this to say that the scent does not outweigh the soothing properties, in my mind so (I take off no *'s for this). My feeling is that when you're suffering from dryness or you're sick, you take much more yucky tasty medicine (Hello... Pepto? NyQuil?) and if it does the job, your $10 isn't wasted.

My husband is prone to dry sinuses in the wintertime which plague him. This winter so far, he has used it to "heal" his nasal passages and it has worked well. Although nothing can replace a good humidifier (whole house being ideal) this product can do wonders for those that suffer from winter nasal dryness and irritation. My husband said he used it 3X/day for a week and he went from dry and inflamed to moist and comfortable (his words). So... there you go! Two reviews for the price of one...! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Sinus Maintainence, March 14, 2011

I first became aware of this product while undergoing a complete physical at Scott and White Clinic, Temple, Texas.

This was a product developed for the astronauts to use to avoid the damage to their sinuses while in zero humidity.

It is composed of essential oils and prevents damage to the cells of the sinuses. It is also recommended for those who have damaged nasal pathways from miss using Afrin Nasal Spray. Great product while in low humidity, helps avoid nose bleed.

I have sinus trouble and on those days or nights when things are really tough, I can use a dropper of this to get the relief I need. This can open things up, lubricate a dry nose or clear your head in order to get back to sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creating a Ponaris nasal spray, August 8, 2010
This review is from: Ponaris Nasal Emollient - 1 oz Bottle with Dropper
My ENT doctor recommended emptying all or half of a saltwater nasal spray bottle, pushing off the tip and then pouring in the Ponaris oil. Leaving some of the saltwater will thin the oil, but if you want to dilute the scent or don't need undiluted viscosity of the oil, this will do the trick. Replace the tip tightly, and you have a Ponaris SPRAY that will stay in place, providing you relief.

Friend, who is a nurse practioner suggested using this product for nose bleeds. My husband started another session of nose bleeds due to dry air, even with humidifier running. Ordered product and he used it 2x per day for only 2 days and nosebleeds stopped completely. Amazing product and so glad a friend told me about it. If you suffer from nose bleeds this is the answer. Was glad to find it on Amazon as you won't find it in any of the chain drug stores.

I first bought Ponaris many years ago when it was recommended by my doctor following sinus surgery. It's not widely known, looks like 19th Century packaging, and is hard to find in stores, but I highly recommend it to soothe winter-dry, irritated, stuffy nasal and sinus tissues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing results, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Ponaris Nasal Emollient - 1 oz Bottle with Dropper
I have to say, as a chronic rhinitis/sinusitis sufferer, this stuff is a God send. My allergist gave me a sample bottle after every prescription and OTC medication out there failed to give me any comfort. The only problem being that it is nearly impossible to find in your regular pharmacy, but they can generally get it in a day or two. So, if you want it fast you need to order it and keep it in the house.
The smell and taste is a little strong, but when you nose feels bad enough that you're willing to put liquids up it on purpose, you'll be glad that you picked something that will help you feel better. I only use a couple of drops in each nostril and I only use it at bedtime. I wake up with a nicely normal feeling throat.
Also, as a person that gets tired of putting chemicals in my body, it is all natural. I feel confidant using it on my 7-year-old allergy suffering child.
As none of our pharmacies carry it locally, the only one that had ever had it had not reordered since thay had sold very little of it, so they ordered it for me. I'm looking very forward to picking it up on Monday!
