Good job.,

Carlos Ponce has only 3 albums but and each one of them have a good production. He works with one of the best producers in latin music industry (E. Estefan Jr.).What is curious is that this album went actually nowhere, eventhough had a strong background with the series that Carlos was acting in and the theme was very good. The first official single was a big hit in Latin America ("Mujer con pantalones"/"Woman with pants"). In the U.s reached #15. The song has good lyrics and the rhythm makes you feel like dancing. I know very much about music and I collect cd's and I think that Carlos is one of the best male latin singers, he has a very good voice also. He's first 2 albums were very successful reaching Gold and Platinum status, he also had several #1 hits.

It has been interesting to follow the progression of the works of Carlos Ponce. I have to admit that I bought my first CD years ago because he looked so good on the cover, but the music turned out to thoroughly enjoyable fun music. They say that a man improves with age, and Carlos Ponce has. On Ponce, his third CD, his voice has gained nuance and depth. It ranges from a gravelly growl to an impassioned cry, and conveys emotions from intimate to angry, despair to playful. Chord progressions and arrangements have become more innovative than on his first CD's, perhaps under the influence of Emilio Estevan Jr. Songs have gone from Busco Una Mujer (Looking for a woman/Carlos Ponce 1998), to Mujer con Pantalones (Woman in Pants/Ponce 2002), and from Sigues Conmigo (Follow Me/Todo Lo Que Soy 1999) to Llevame Contigo (Take Me with You/Ponce 2002). Now understand that my Spanish is elementary at best (corrections welcome). Most of the lyrics go right over my head. But to my ear, he has gone from being a cute party boy in his first CD to more mature and thoughtful. That doesn't mean that there aren't fun songs (check out Pantalones again). My favorite song on the CD is the eighth, Quiero, romantic and playful. This doesn't mean that the earlier CD's aren't worth listening to. There's nothing on this CD like dance mix of Rezo. As an aside: interesting that he's named his third CD with his name (Ponce), as he did his first (Carlos Ponce). Could he be saying that he has reinvented himself?

The best of Carlos,
This review is from: Ponce (Audio CD)
'Ponce' is definitely Carlos Ponce's best work to date. Musically it flows better than his previous two albums (though those are quite good too), and lyrically he expands in directions few dare take, in that he doesn't just put out 11 sappy love songs. He actually has something of substance to say. This is one album that I can listen to all day and never get tired of. My favorite tracks are 'Canela', 'Ahora o Nunca' and 'Nalgadas de Sabina'. It's that last song that really lets you know what he set out to do with this album.
