Editorial Reviews

It's milestone time for Latin-jazz percussionist Poncho Sanchez; not only does this release mark his 60th birthday, but it's also his 25th Concord recording as a bandleader. He teams with trumpet titan Terence Blanchard in tribute to the storied duo of Dizzy Gillespie and Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo, doing Siboney; Con Alma; Promenade; Nocturna; Groovin' High; Jack's Dilemma , and more!

WOW! This CD blew me away! I respect both of these brothers. Their musicianship and chemistry together is like a stick of dynamite! I just got it yesterday. I listened to it as I was getting ready for work and what a wonderful CD to listen to as you prepare for the day. Chano Pozo and Dizzy Gillespie are both looking down so proudly at BOTH OF THEM FOR CREATING this work. The tribute to both of these timeless musicians is one that I highly recommend to anyone who has a respect for Latin Jazz. Job well done by Brother Poncho and Brother Terrence! I LOVE IT!!!!

Grammy winners (Blanchard and Sanchez) exemplified gloriously on this beautiful, melodic, latin-jazzful, incredible album. Blanchard's horn fits perfectly with Sanchez's style and band. Poncho always, always has horn blowers that blow horn hard and crisp. Blanchard is no exception here. And Poncho is such a virtuoso on the congas, he can play anything. The timbales on this CD are incredible. Everybody in the band has their moments on this recording. I am ALL-IN on this album. But I may be partial here because I play the congas.

Brilliant collaboration, Afro-Latino beat of the drums and not to mention the sound of an outstanding trumpeter Terence Blanchard gracing the mood. This is a gift for jazz enthusiasts

Good renditions of some old standards. Poncho is at his best and Mr. Blanchard lets loose with some down home riffs.

Heard Nocturnal on local station WWNO out of New Orleans during weekly Saturday night Jazz airing.
Purchased album for that one song and am delighted to have discovered all of the songs as engrossing.
