I have tried SAB, and other products, but none does the job like Alagefix. It knocks out string alage and keeps my 4000 gallon pond, 20 foot stream, & waterfall clean and clear, but yet keeps the eco-system in check. It is not harmful to my fish or my cat who likes to drink out of the pond (I think he likes to do a little fishing of his own, but luckly he is not very good at it). I usuallly add about a 1/2 cup in the skimmer once a week or every other week depending upon the weather conditions. It nice to find a product that does what it claims to do.

AlgaeFix directions include: "For synthetically lined pond and fountain use only, where all water is contained without any outflow." Add 60 ml. for each 600 gallons, repeat dose every three days until algae is controlled. Once algae growth is under control, add one dose per week.
There is no notation of a maximum dose.
We have an 8500 gallon outdoor pond with a waterfall; it has been installed for more than 15 years. To control algae we have used UV lights, filters, shade and nutrient control. Because we sometimes were bothered by excess green water, I decided to try this product.
The first application seemed to have little effect, however with the subsequent doses the water became remarkably clear. The effect was so complete that I did not continue to add the weekly doses unless some clouding was seen.
I did notice that with subsequent treatments the koi seemed to be progressively more bothered. They would not eat for a day or two after AlgaeFix was added.
Later in the summer the water clouded and I resumed weekly treatments however the water did not clear. I then went to every three days. With the second application the koi seemed to be more troubled than previously and after the third treatment they did not eat at all.
By the second day it was clear they were very sick. The pond waterfall was in continuous operation and secondary aeration was added with the second dose. I further increased aeration. The koi were not coming to the surface gasping or displaying any oxygen hunger. Just very ill and listless.
They began to die and continued doing so despite water exchanges. We lost two-thirds of the koi, several more than a decade old.
I then did a Google search looking for a remedy and was very surprised to discover that others have had the same experience with this chemical.
I do not recommend use of this product unless you are prepared to lose all your koi.

I have researched and tried several products that claim to control string algae and green water algae. This is the best product I've ever tried. Our fish have never gasped for air after an application of AlgaeFix, but have after other products. And our plants have never shown any ill effects. I'm pretty conservative with products like this so that I don't hurt our fish. So, I would recommend following the instructions to be safe, but THIS PRODUCT WORKS!

I used this product two days ago at first i noticed that the fish started to surface after using it as recommended i had aeration ( fountain , pump and waterfall ) in my pond all the time. The water clears out as it kills the algae but sadly almost all the fish died and others become sluggish .Yes it kills the algae but it kills also the fish .

We were hesitant at first because of the bad reviews regarding the possibility of killing the fish (koi), but we purchased this product anyway two weeks ago because of the overall high reviews. We have a 8500-9000 gallon koi pond with a waterfall, aerator, and two water pumps, thus we believe aeration wouldn't be an issue. We used half the bottle each time (per the direction, twice a week for the initial dosage) to treat the algae. Algae disappeared within 24 hours. Our pond water was crystal clear and we were happy as can be after not being able to see our koi for a month or so from the green water.

A week after we put in the second half of the dose, we noticed our koi floating near the surface but didn't seem like they were gasping for air or dying, so we thought they were just chilling. The next day, we found one inside our skimmer, and two more dead later that day. We're very heartbroken and thus giving this product a one star for a simple fact that it killed our koi even though it says that it's safe for koi and/or goldfish.

SADLY, THE COST OF HAVING A CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER IS THE RISK OF DEAD KOI. Had it been safe for our koi, it would've been the perfect product, but we'd like to warn other koi owner out there prior to using this product. We're just like you, hesitant from the bad reviews, but purchased it anyway due to the overall high review. Take our experience and we won't recommend this product to any koi owner out there!

I used Algaefix at half-dose based on the recommendations of a number of internet reviews (kills algae, but may kill fish too). The algae continued to flourish, but it effectively poisoned 100+ water hyacinth over a period of maybe six weeks. I decided to up the dose to what the product packaging stated to get rid of the green once and for all - bad mistake!

Within two hours, I noticed a number of fish surfaced around the edges of the pond. They were not gasping for air, just sitting there basically floating. I tried a water change but by nightfall maybe six hours later, I had lost two koi - both 20" fish that had been in this pond since it was built in 2005. I had never lost a fish before.

No fish were visible through the nice green water the next morning, however, so I had some short-lived hope that everything had stabilized. Using the pump discharge, I moved the water around on the bottom and up they came - handfuls of dead baby koi as well as most of the big ones. Within 24 hours of adding the recommended dose, I was down to one large koi and one large goldfish, both of which were one their sides and barely moving. Forty-eight hours in, the last one was gone. I ended up losing five 16"-20" koi, two 10"+ goldfish and more than 25 1.5"-3" baby koi. Not one fish survived.

This product is terrible. The algae survived, but it killed some of the pond plants and all of the fish. This product really needs to be taken off the market!
