5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Title, March 28, 2009
This review is from: Pontiac 1946-1978: The Classic Postwar Years (Hardcover)
It seems like the MBI (Motorbooks International) books fall into 2 categories: the glossy, bright picture, "car-porn" photography books, and the books that balance photographic information with other information.

This book is the second type.

An oblong 205 page hardcover with dustjacket with a sewn binding. Inside there are something like 150 b&w illustrations.

This really is "a comprehensive, year-by-year account" of Pontiac. The book has it all: early Pontiac history and design traditions, some of the major players in the design and marketing of Pontiac (including DeLorean!), technical innovations, specs, photos and technical drawings of engines and other systems, detailed discussions of design changes over time (and how these changes were received by the public), and loads of information charting every variation of car that came off the Pontiac line.

In short, you really get the "story" of Pontiac. What worked, what didn't, and why.

7 Appendices and an index. My favorites here are the bibliography of Pontiac literature and the Pontiac Model Year Output which tallies how many models were manufactured each year.

This book is a model-by-model history with technical specifications and many historic photographs. It includes stories of all the Pontiac greats- Woodies, Star Chiefs, GTO, Firebird, Catalina, and Bonnevilles. Good historic accounts make this a must have book for serious Pontiac buffs.
