5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must read for anyone who loves Pontiacs!
This is an excellent source book for Pontiac lovers. It gives the complete history of Pontiac from it's origins as Oakland to the modern Pontiac Motor Division of GM in 1992. Most pictures are black and white, but some are in color. Great history of Canadian Pontiacs, and Pontiacs worldwide. The reader will even get a peek inside the Design Studio to see the 92 - 99...

2.0 out of 5 stars History Yes, Excitement by Pontiac? Not the Author's Version
Some great amount of work doing an entire automotive division's history, but there has to be more research for such a full claim, maybe GM was not forthwith in helping (who GM?, inside joke). When I saw the "THEY BUILT EXCITEMENT" on the front cover of this hard-bound book with a pic of a rental car Grand Am plowing straight through a water puddle (think: sideways in a...

This review is from: Pontiac They Built Excitement: The Story of an American Automobile Company 1926 to 1992 (Hardcover)
The reader will even get a peek inside the Design Studio to see the 92 - 99 Bonneville and the 92 - 98 Grand Am being designed. You will even get some history on various GM reorgs over the years. This book is well worth the price!

Some great amount of work doing an entire automotive division's history, but there has to be more research for such a full claim, maybe GM was not forthwith in helping (who GM?, inside joke). When I saw the "THEY BUILT EXCITEMENT" on the front cover of this hard-bound book with a pic of a rental car Grand Am plowing straight through a water puddle (think: sideways in a real excitement selection maybe ANY Firebird or!!) had me wondering why I bought it (well I had hopes, and a willingness to give it a chance first, then judge for sure later, strange concept eh?). As I read on it was worse for me expecting "Excitement", I mean they missed such claims to fame as follows (and I will keep it brief): No Pace Car coverage such as the small amount I added below to such vehicles as the Turbo Trans Am or Turbo Grand Prix!! These were EXCITEMENT Image builders, used to raise the bar of what Pontiac could do with their E-Arm so soon after many car companies were still without any muscle from the oil embargo and the Asian Invasion. Statement vehicles such as those made by partnerships with such greats as PAS (who also did the GNX for Buick and the Syclone and Typhoon for GMC) to do the 1989 Turbo Trans Am, with an engine even better than that in one of America's Fastest Coups ever made the GNX, GN/T-Type from Buick. And the ASC/McLaren Turbo Grand Prix (1989-90) and even the same for the Turbo STE (in 1990) both done with the expertise of McLaren Racing Engines and American Sunroof Corp, I think those might make me EXCITED!? And SLP that made the Firehawks with Pontiac, a racecar that anyone could buy and compete legally and competitively in, one to order without a back seat, radio, A/C, but with options such as an aluminum drive shaft, roll-cage and other such REAL race goodies. And the 1LE option to make a non-SLP racer out of most any Firebird!!! Alright, I'm done, NO I don't own a Firebird or Trans Am, it was only facts I was speaking, you may pick this book for other reasons than Excitement and be happier than me ;-). Thanks for listening.
