Pony Sledge Hammers
The fiberglass-handled sledge hammers sold by Home Depot and Lowes are equal in quality to the excellent Pony. However, the Pony 4-lb. sledge has a non-slip handle. The rubber coating (over the fiberglass) improves the grip, particularly if your hand perspires. The handle diameter size is just right for my large hand. The Pony 3-lb sledge lacks a rubber grip (contrary to the Amazon photo), but its handle fits my hand nicely. (E.g., Home Depot's Ewing sledge hammer's handle diameter is too small for me.) I also wanted a bright handle, so the tools could be found after working on outdoor projects. The Pony orange is easier to see at nightfall in the brush. Overall, these hammers are well made. See Customer Images for a size comparison photo of the two hammers and their actual handle lengths. Neither of the Pony hammers I received matches the Amazon photo. One star off for Amazon's incorrect product photo and listing the wrong handle lengths for the 3 pound hammer. |
