I purchased this book for my pony-crazed 7-year-old daughter, who reads at a 3rd grade level. This has been a great chapter book for her--challenging without being frustrating. And the fact that it's about a pony-crazed princess has kept her interested, even though she reads me only one chapter each night. She's looking forward to reading about each of the ponies, as they get featured in future books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love ponies! By Kellie and her Mom, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Pony-Crazed Princess #1: Princess Ellie to the Rescue (Pony-Crazed Princess (Hyperion)) (Paperback)
It is a very nice kind of book because it is about ponies. There is a good adventure for Ellie. Sundance is a nice pony. The thing that is sad is when the pony gets stuck in the hole. It has a happy ending and now I would like to read all the other books in this series. I am 7 and a half years old and this is the first chapter book I have read from beginning to end.

Pony-Crazed Princess: Princess Ellie to the Rescue
Here's a fun book. It's a good one to pick up to read with your kids or grandkids. At only 80 pages this is a fairly easy read for a third grade student. The fun cartoons drawn on nearly every page make it a good transitional book for kids who are starting to read chapter books. Diana Kimpton wrote the book, and Lizzie Finlay illustrated it with delightful figures. There are several more books in this series.
Princess Ellie wants only to ride and play with her four ponies. She's dismayed that everything she owns must be pink, according to her father, the King, (except the ponies of course.) Even her riding pants are pink. This makes her sound spoiled, but she really does want to learn to take care of the ponies. The former groom wouldn't ever allow her to tack up and feed her four little friends, "because she is the "daughter of the king." A new groom comes to the stable and teaches her to muck out the stalls, and all the other "fun" chores of taking care of the ponies. While she's learning proper horse care, she realizes someone is watching her while she's at the stable and out riding. One of her ponies turns up missing. Could it have been the mysterious watcher who has stolen Sundance? In the end, it is Princess Ellie who comforts her lost pony when he's trapped.--Robin Moore

This is a really cute story of a princess girl who wants to learn to take care of her horse. She gets to learn with a new care giver. The parents don't feel that she should do dirty work, but the love of her horse doesn't stop her.
