5.0 out of 5 stars Control you owner bells
These bells should called control your owner bells. My dog learned to us the bells for potty, so I got another set for upstairs. She uses these bells any time she wants you to do anything. Once you are up, she directs you to what she wants. These bells have improved our communication greatly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job...but
It did not take long to train our Aussie puppy to ring the bell to go outside. The problem arises in the fact that whenever she gets bored or wants to go outside for any reason she rings the bell. I am sure she relishes in the fact she has her humans trained, oh and yesterday she rang the bell...was ignored...promptly pooped on the floor right in front of the door and...

OK, if I could give this product 6 stars I would.

We were having a big problem with our Boxer puppy not catching on to the in/out concept of housebreaking. It was driving us crazy. He was well past where it should have sunk in. We were trying to be vigilant, but accidents were still happening, and undoubtedly so when we were away and came back.

We tried Nature's Miracle, we tried being vigilant, monitoring when he would drink water, taking him out for frequent trips outside, etc. but didn't have any success.

Then we thought we'd try this. It seemed like a gimmick, but we were will to through $20 bucks at the problem to try and solve it. My expectations were low.

Very thankfully, I was completely wrong. Our dog took to it right away. For the first week, every time we opened the door to the backyard we rang the bells, encouraged him to hit it with his nose, and said "Ring the bells" before opening the door. In a very short time our little guy caught on, and would hit the bells lightly with his nose to make them sound, at which point we'd jump up and open the door -- and he'd go out and successfully do is business. It was awesome.

Now, we always know when he wants to go out. The bells aren't too loud or soft either. We can hear them anywhere we are on our first floor, but not too loud that they are annoying when rung. Either way, they work so we're happy.

Plus, they travel easily. We took them with us to our various families' homes over Christmas and our dog used them there as well, much to our families' surprise.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT -- I strongly recommend it.

To keep our dog from scratching the door and glass, we decided to give these a try. Upon arrival, we hung them on the door and followed the instructions. Within a few days our dog was "ringing the bell" to go out! Simply amazing. The only drawback is that the bells swing widly when the door is opened and you have to be careful that you don't slam the door on them. It is not a product defect -- blame physics!

These bells work great. My 5 month old English Bully, rings them whenever he needs to go outside.
He hasn't had an accident for months. Now if only I had something that would improve the hearing of my kids, 15, 13, and 11. It seems I'm the only one that hears the bells ringing.... so my voice has to be added to get the kids to take the dog out :)
Ah... yes now I remember; they are in the "selective hearing" stage of life.

I highly recommend using the Poochie Bells, especially when housebreaking a puppy. I followed what other reviewers suggested and hung them on the wall right next to my door, rather than from the door handle. It made sense to me - otherwise the bells would be ringing every time the door was opened for anything, which I thought might be confusing to my dogs. We started our little tiny 10 week old toy poodle puppy right out with these. We followed the directions, and every time we took her outside we would first ring the bells (with her little paw or gently with her nose), say "Ring the bells ... and go OUT!" and then open the door and take her outside. (We were careful to be sure that the bells didn't actually frighten her, because in our case they are pretty big compared to the size of the puppy, haha.) I will admit it felt a little silly sometimes, but we kept it up anyway, always with a cheerful voice and positive attitude. I am pleased to report that she learned very quickly to use them herself! She is three months old now and it is the cutest thing to see this tiny little dog either swing her paw and bat the bells or nudge them with her nose when she wants to go outside. They make a jingle sound like Christmas sleigh bells, which is a pleasant way for her to call us to the door. Much nicer than crying or scratching, and we can hear it from a surprising distance in our home. The fact that they are not on a heavy strap actually makes it easier for the dog to ring them loudly. Like I said, I highly recommend these. They are a clever, fun, and practical idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great communication tool for our dog, April 12, 2011
This review is from: PoochieBells Dog Potty Training Doorbell, Chocolate Brown (Misc.)
We bought these poochie bells for our 50-lb, 1 year old mixed breed dog. She is house broken but was having a few accidents in the house because we weren't picking up on her signals that she had to go. She would just sit by our our feet or bother us but we thought she just wanted attention so we got these bells to help let her notify us in a more audible way. I followed the directions on the package, i taught her touch and treated her when she touched her nose to the bells. Then, each time we take her outside, we say "outside, touch the bells" and if she doesn't touch it with her nose, we do it for her and take her out. She picked it up after a few days. Now, when she touches the bells, we know she has to go. I've heard of other dogs abusing the bells to just go outside to play but our dog hasn't done that. We don't hang them on the door knob because it would be ringing whenever we came in and left the house, we placed it on a hook near the door at the dog's level, so it only sounds when she needs it. We kept it out of her reach the first few days when we started to keep her from abusing it but now it stays hung on the hook all the time. We still take her out in the morning and before bed without her prompting it but its great for all the times in between. It's been a great training tool and it looks much better than the pictures shown here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Success!, January 11, 2011
This review is from: PoochieBells Dog Potty Training Doorbell, Chocolate Brown (Misc.)
Our 12 week old puppies learned to use the bells in only 3 days, and the indoor potty accidents diminished quickly. The only negative is the thin quality of the ribbon. I'll be replacing it with my own soon.

I had never heard of potty training with bells. I purchased this and have trained our puppy to use it. He goes to it and lets us know when he needs to go out. It is also nice looking. This is the quickest we have ever trained a puppy.

After getting tired of our 13 week old boxer puppy having accidents we got the poochie bells. After about 5 days she has really caught on. Today makes it her second day of being accident free... which just happens to be the second day of her 'getting it' and ringing the poochie bells!
