This is a great, classic book! I purchased it for my 2nd grader, and I think it is better as a read-aloud to your child book than one they just read themselves. There are many conversations with characters who have different voices, and it might be confusing to a child who was reading it alone (at least for the first time reading it). My child is not/has never been a Winnie the Pooh fan and was skeptical when I showed her this book, but by chapter 2 she was hooked. The illustrations add a lot for a child who is listening to you read. My child also liked the story about how the book came to be and the REAL Christopher Robin, which I told her just before we started reading this.

I got this book set for my 3 year old niece. I'm giving this set all possible stars because it is a great quality set at a good value. However, this is probably not the ideal set of winnie the pooh books for a 3 year old. The sketches are minimal and are in black and white. These are not color books. My little niece looked through the books in horror asking where the color pictures were. This book set has a lovely antique quality to it. Aunty thought it was a timeless classic set. Anya thought they were boring with no color pitures. Brat. Li recommend getting his set as it contains all the wonderful stories by A.A. Milne. However, I might suggest getting this book along with some of the cheaper color versions for the little kids to look at. That or maybe reserve this book set for children that are a bit older (5 or 6?) that won't have a meltdown if there aren't color photos. Still, it's a beautiful set that would make a really classy gift for a child's birthday or a baby shower. Just don't give it to a bratty 3 year old.

I was somewhat reluctant to pay this price for children's books, but did so in recollection of how much enjoyment I got out of them as a boy. First, a young boy, and a surprising number of years thereafter. Children will appreciate the simple stories, and adult narrators the wry humor with which they are told.
Winnie the Pooh has been absorbed as part of our culture, in the process of which the original is almost forgotten. Everybody knows the Disney characters of Pooh, Tigger and Piglet. Very few remember the little boy, Christopher Robin, whose toys they were. It is a worldwide phenomenon. My son has a jigsaw puzzle of Винни Пух - a Russian transliteration, but with characters that bear no resemblance to either Milne's original or Disney.
I ripped the package open when it came in yesterday's mail, and read it to my two-year-old son well past the point at which he lost interest. It is an engrossing story, one what makes me want to keep on reading.
Five stars now, for the same reasons it was a five-star production in the early 20th century. It's worth buying a well-produced edition; these books will stand the test of time.

I know they have been around for a long time, but I had not read them until now. I got a set for my niece, who's expecting. When they arrived, I decided to read them for myself. They are adorable. I am so glad that I got them. I ordered another set for her, as I am keeping the first set. I highly recommend. Robin, Surprise, Az
