Book Description

May 12, 2004
The Pool Room delves, up close and personal, into the sometimes-sordid world of high-stakes billiards (pool). You will be introduced to some very unique characters that frequent a pool establishment that has been in operation for over thirty years in the same location. This story has a surprise ending where two anomalies occur that will capture your imagination. You will experience the flavor, sights and sounds of the real world of a sub-culture that many do not know exists. If you have ever played pool for money then you will easily relate to this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pool Room characters, August 13, 2004
This review is from: The Pool Room (Paperback)
The Pool Room really seems to enlighten it readers about many of the small insignificant inner-personal exchanges that take place between pool room regulars. It also graphically shows how big money pool matches come about. I especially liked the basic premis of the story line (excellance/perfection). I don't think I have ever seen that premis in any book I've ever read before.
Being a tournament pool player myself, I really enjoyed this book and plan to recommend it to all of my pool playing friends.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Pool Room (Paperback)
As a pool player of some 22 years, I purchased "The Pool Room" expecting what the blurb promised; a story of "some very unique characters that frequent a pool establishment". While the book does deliver that, albiet in a rather pedestrian writing style, the later chapters introduce a subplot of Christian conversion of one of the characters, complete with biblical verses. As this was not what I was looking for, I was less than thrilled with the purchase.

If you like your fiction to have an insirational message, give "The Pool Room" a try, by all means. If, however, you just want to read about pool, I would recomend David McCumber's "Playing Off the Rail" as a better choice.
