5.0 out of 5 stars Better Made, Easier to Install Than Others
I got a really good deal on these, probably because the only review that existed was bad. So I felt I had to add another opinion. The seller only had three of these at the low price and I needed five, so I also got two of a competing model made by Techko (which had much better reviews) and got to compare them directly. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not safe
This unit does not continue to beep when the door is closed. A child could pass through and close the door. If you did not hear the initial beep, you would never know they were in danger! A good alarm should continue to beep once activated until an adult shuts it off, but this one does not!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Made, Easier to Install Than Others, January 30, 2011
This review is from: PoolTrends PTSL03 Sentinel Alarm System for Pool Gate, Pool Door, or Window (Lawn & Patio)
I got a really good deal on these, probably because the only review that existed was bad. So I felt I had to add another opinion. The seller only had three of these at the low price and I needed five, so I also got two of a competing model made by Techko (which had much better reviews) and got to compare them directly. Boy, was I surprised! This model is a much better quality product, and much easier to install - especially if you're using screws to mount the main unit.

Since I was using these on windows, I didn't need the extra pass/reset button so just wrapped it up with a twist tie out of the way. (The extra button would be perfect for a gate or door.) To mount the unit, you just hold the mounting bracket exactly where you want it, and screw it right in place. Then just snap on the unit. It's just as easy to remove. The other model required marking holes with a paper template (which didn't match the outline of the unit, so you couldn't really judge the placement relative to window movement, blinds, etc.), and then you have to get the screws placed just right so the unit will hang on them properly. Much simpler with the PoolTrends unit.

The battery compartment has four small philips screws, but nothing out of the ordinary. You've certainly seen worse if you have children (which is probably why you're looking at child safety alarms!). The nine-volt battery snaps in and out of the compartment easily. On the competing model, you have to fish out the connector wires (like an old transistor radio), snap on the connector (which is an absolute bear to disconnect without ripping the wires out), and stuff it all back into the battery compartment, which is covered by a cheap plastic window which fits loosely over the opening. If the window falls off or gets lost, the battery falls out the bottom of the unit.

In a nutshell, this brand is better thought out, better made, and easier to install than others. Oh, and it works perfectly. I wish I had bought five of them!

I like the product..it installs easily and makes a loud piercing alarm!! The only thing is that you have to get use to pushing the button before you enter or leave.

Purchased many of these for my home after installing a pool. They are easy to install (tape or screws included), sturdy in construction, simple to operate and very effective in letting you know if a window, door or gate is opened or not closed all the way. I highly recommend this device for a simple yet effective way to reliably secure your home/pool entrances and exits when children are in the house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work - kept beeping, February 22, 2011

No matter what we did, this alarm would beep - sometimes it waited 15 minutes or longer between beeps, but it never stopped regardless of whether the pass/reset button was pressed or not. And sometimes it would beep once, other times it would beep twice. We finally gave up and unplugged the battery. I wouldn't waste your money on this alarm.
