5.0 out of 5 stars Appeals to a broad audience
I am a seasoned strategic internet sourcer who has been online for over four years. I found this primer to be quite informative because it reminded me of many advanced searching and sourcing techniques that are quite useful and not well-known. This book has broad appeal because it can be read by both novices and experieced professionals who rely on the internet to market...

1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry - but this book misses the mark
Very little real solutions...I don't know if the other reviewers read a different book than I did but honestly not that informative and has nothing "new" in it. Nothing in here that one couldn't figure out for oneself just by using common sense and having a better-than-rudimentary knowledge of the Internet.

1.0 out of 5 stars More hype than substance, February 8, 2003

I've been recruiting for over 20 years and using the Internet every day for the last 5. I read the first two chapters of this book and then just glanced through the rest. It is very basic stuff and much of the information is completely out of date now. The author seems to be self-promoting and sounds more like an Internet marketer than a serious recruitment professional.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Richard is "poor" reading, January 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Poor Richard's Internet Recruiting (Paperback)
Not impressed with the information in this book. Chapters 10-13 were ok but nothing to write home about. Some good tips on low cost recruiting using the net but nothing I was interested in as a recruiter in CA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, December 29, 2000

Poor Richard should have stuck to his almanac. This book was not helpful to me in trying to recruit on the Internet. Surfing around on your own will provide you with more up-to-date information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good overview and primer, February 6, 2001

Very well written. It provides a comprehensive overview of the major changes that have occurred in the last five years in the recruiting industry. Ling's style is easy to read and will make sense to the non-geeks out there. My copy is already dogeared and highlighted and will be required reading for our department managers.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Incredibly helpful, January 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Poor Richard's Internet Recruiting (Paperback)
Very comprehensive book addressing the sourcing of resumes as well as furthering the relationship with candidates. I found chapters 10 through 13 especially helpful with boolean search examples (using search engines) and directions on how to "drill down" on the target industry or niche.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey, this is a really useful book!, January 3, 2001
This review is from: Poor Richard's Internet Recruiting (Paperback)
Well, I run a highly regarded job and community site for the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, and I see a lot of stuff professing to help folks use the Net to find jobs. A lot of it is useless or marginal.

This book is very useful, very realistic about all the job help out there on the Net. It's very down to earth, and to the point. It includes a lot of stuff, very current, which is hard given the rapid pace of change.

If I were looking, and didn't know a lot about what's going on, this book would be perfect. It'll also be good for people who know a lot, since it offer perspectives a Net veteran might lack.

The book also helps in unexpected ways, like letting people with DSL or cable modems know that they better do a little security upgrade.

Again, I've seen a lot of stuff, and I really recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential information for both recruiters and employers., January 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Poor Richard's Internet Recruiting (Paperback)
I found this book to be packed with tricks and techniques from which even the experienced Internet recruiter can learn. Definitely a must-have for a recruiter or business-owner's bookshelf. The section on writing a job post that gets results was particularly noteworthy.
