I was first 'introduced' to the Larkin's by a TV series in, I think, the early 60's. That encouraged me to read the books - and I have loved them ever since. The Larkin's are a slice of Britain's past long gone, from a better time, when the world wasn't in such a hurry and when children were allowed to be just that - children.

This book was chosen for our book club to read. We only had to read the first in the series of the Pop Larkin Chronicles. Only 150 or so pages I only got to page 65 and that it took me three weeks to do so. The characters were boring. The story line was odd from meeting this Tax man and having his stay for the weekend to the eldest daughter having a baby and then changing her mind of not having a baby. The only interesting part I found was that they lived on a farm but other than that I can't see why anyone would read these stories or even make a tv series out of it.
